Don't know what to tell you. Most people set the car on the temp they want, on Auto, and drive. Temp goes up to 70.X, heater turns off (fan doesn't). Drops to 69.X, heater comes on. I have no idea if those are the right numbers, but that's the concept.

Go to the screen that shows E-Heat and you MAY be able to see the heat turn off and on.
Yes 70 to 69. Why not 70 to 60?

So you want the car to cool to 60 degrees, when I have it set on 70, before it again heats to 70?

Well, if we did a survey of vehicle owners, I suspect you, and 2 other people would vote for that. The rest of us want the temperature to be closely tied to what we set it on.

It's an idea for improvement, I don't want to upset anyone. And I think a lot more people would welcome it if you tell them that their mileage will increase. Thanks to this, I drive under 20kW/100km at -5°C.

It's a shame that the source codes are not at least downloadable on GitLab. People could send you freely modified source codes for the theme and possible takeover by you.

Why on earth would Ford do that?

It's not the Ford Linux.

The whole UI is woefully slow, but again I have to say, conscientiously designed. Everything is big as it should be. I click on the icon with an overview even on the wrong road.

He’s referring to the type of thermostat I think Rick. It’s designed to prevent the constant cycling of an ac system you would otherwise get in things like a fridge or freezer (in particular).l where you’d cool the refrigerator to 40 and then in starts coming on again at 40.1 etc. Most household thermostats act similarly with a bit of a lag before they start heating or cooling after reaching the desired temperature.

Whether the Mach-e uses a similar arrangement is beyond my pay grade. Plus I don’t particularly care in my case.

And yeah, I had to go look up what temperature hysteresis in a thermostat was.

Don't take it so low. All you need is the temperature of the cabin sensor and adjustment in the program according to the user-set temperatures. I set the cabin temperature to 70 and then turn off the complete heat and fans. After the temperature reaches 60 in the cabin, the heating and fans are switched on again. The point is that people realize much later than they feel cooler.

But yes, otherwise all the car companies laugh at us for driving at 27kW/100km.

As I said, I don’t particularly care. I live in a very temperate environment where temperatures only hit the upper 30s for overnight lows once or twice a year. And 10 degrees of lag in a thermostat is far too much.

I can be the third person in Rick's list of people who would be interested in the mod you suggest. It would be good if we could set the on and off temperatures manually, like you can on your home thermostat. I might not pick a 10 degree swing.

However, I am not convinced it would use less energy to heat the car from 60 to 70, compared with maintaining the temperature at 66 or 68 F. Or even maintaining it at 70 F. It does not take much to maintain it once the temperature is reached, but it would be running full blast to get it from 60 to 70.
