Aftermarket 360 camera system add on?

Hello,

I am a proud owner of a Cyber Orange GTPE delivered 3/31/22 however I was one of those who didn’t think before I made the order back last October 2021. My Hot MME is without Park assist, blue cruise, or 360 Camera system which is what I regret the most. Now the plan is to add an aftermarket 360 camera system. Since the vehicle has a back up camera, tapping into that video input shouldn’t be a problem with additional cameras.

I found a decent price system with good reviews on AZ for$258

Anyone else care about having this type of camera system for safety that their car did not come with like mine?

It's for security and the wifey's parking safety as I am planning to give her the MME in a few months

Sorry to hear that you ordered your GTPE without that technology, in my mind it's a game changer. I think Ford should make that tech standard, for a car at this price. I wouldn't be surprised if Ford gets a lot of complaints from buyers about this.

If you intend to use it as something like Tesla's sentry mode, I think it will consume a lot of electricity. I heard Tesla's 720p cam (which is probably optimized a lot) takes 4-6kwh per day. I'd not stress the 12V battery that much given there are so many 'stop safely' issues. You may try to use an external battery but that barely holds this system for a day or two, and safer ones used for dashcams are freaking expensive.

Nah I want the 360 camera for added security when my wife takes the Car out.....Not to record like Tesla's

I could be wrong but I feel you're going to run into issues trying to get the video from this to show on the main screen- unless you're planning on adding an additional little screen somewhere. Also have concerns about what switching the backup camera from your car to this box would do- throwing codes, errors, etc.

You could probably sell your car for a profit and order one with the features you want. The aftermarket cameras won't be seamless.

Very true regarding codes but I think it won't .......

Good idea on a separate screen and I thought about that as well......Just have to brainstorm on the location to make it look clean and unobstructed.....

You are probably better off selling this to carvana/CarMax and ordering a one with the tech you want. My 2 cents.

I guarantee that an OTA is not going to add cameras to his car that aren't already there.

Not by any stretch of the imagination. I am one of those guys who has always defied conventional thinking and has never messed up on any decisions in the past with any of my many cars......This is no exception but if you live life thinking What if's....You will never know.....
