Got a new 2025 Mach E GTPE less than 2 months ago. I have a 40 amp home charger. Wife drives one way to work 16 miles, then other daily driving but not much. Our power bill went up $176 from last month. Also compared to the same month last year it was almost doubled. I see all these post about how much money people are saving with an EV, some say their electric bill didn’t even go up. We went from loving this car to regretting our purchase.

Hm, the numbers don't add up. What are you paying per Kwh? How many miles have you driven?

There is a lot not in your post!!!
1. When are you charging (day, night???) Usually cheaper in the middle of the night
2. Did you contact your Electricity Provide to find out if they have any EV specific plans?

I will tell you that I have not seen a dramatic rise in my electric bill over the 5 year ownership period.

Yeah, same here with no big change in bill since i charge on non peak hours. I notice a high daily usage when I have to charge from 20 to 90% but that is expected. What does your electric company charge per kw?

I have it programmed to charge between 1am-6am. I looked on line and in eastern KY no EV plans.

1) Answer how much you pay per kWh.
2) 160 miles to work plus misc is at most one full charge. 176/88kWh would be $2 per kWh. No one pays that. You probably pay 10% or less of that.
3) Charging history is in app. Do the math.
4) This is why EV adoption is challenged. Math. Logic.

Check your daily kw usage after charging. I can check mine on my electric company’s app. It cost me about $8 to charge

As the others are saying, this doesn't make sense. Are you sure nothing else in your home has changed in relation to electricity usage? AC, dehumidifiers, electric dryer, electric oven, electric heat, hot water heater, etc. Perhaps your price per kWh was lower last year than it is now? I recommend tracking your daily household electricity usage (either at the meter or online if that's an option). From there you should be able to see if car charging shows a notable increase in usage to help to determine what's going on.

I live in Louisville KY. Our bill has gone up since last year, not because of EV charging but all the other fees they add on. We pay about 11.5 cents per KWH. I charge between 10p - 7a and it costs me about $10 a month give or take. Not enough to make a real difference on each bill, that's for sure.

Average electrical usage per day this year is $5.07, last year it was $3.98. That's the difference on my bill

First of all, your electric bill has to go up if you have an electric car. You're going to get somewhere between 2.5-3.5 miles/kWh depending on your speed, acceleration, and braking agressiveness. Speeds over 60 will be less efficient, city roads are more efficient. Hard acceleration and braking can reduce efficiency and regeneration. But outside some extreme situations, you should be between 2.5-3.5 mi/kWh. Let's just say you get 3. Now look at your electricity rates. National average is close to $0.18/kWh right now. That means you're going to pay $0.06 per mile (3 miles for a kilowatt at $0.18). If you drive 20 miles a day on average, that's $1.20/day or $36/mo. If you drive 100 miles a day, it's $6/day or $180/mo.

Conversely, gas is $3.30/ga here. If your car got 33mpg, you'd be paying $0.10/mile (plus oil changes and other maintenance), so you are paying less for electric than gas.

It's entirely possible your electric rate per kWh went up since last year (possibly since last month?) and your home usage will spike in the summer thanks to running the AC. Particularly with the heat waves we've had recently. Also, if you don't have a fixed electric rate and your electric company can charge you a rate that varies with costs - well, rates are very high right now thanks to a multitude of political (please don't lock the thread) and seasonal factors.

Need to look at the actual kWh used to charge the car, not just the price on the electric bill.

Comparing just the price to last year or even last month isn’t really meaningful. Did your rates go up since last year? Was it unseasonably warm this year or this month causing more AC usage?

I bought my "used" 2022 MME GTPE last September. I had a 48A charging unit installed in my garage. I'm retired and no longer commute, driving about 250 miles per month.

In my first 3 months, I could not see a change in my electric bill so I started a spreadsheet to see my power consumption and costs. Electric bills go up and down, my difference was within the "noise".

My spreadsheet (data from Ford App) shows since the beginning of December, I have driven 1344 miles and have charged 518.4 kWh, yielding 2.59 miles/kWh (curiously, the My Trip screens say 3.3 mi/kWh). My electric rate has been between $0.1154 and 0.1321/kWh and my car's calculated contribution to the bill has been around $10/month. Doubling by adding a commute would be about $20/month.

If you're seeing $174 increase in your electric bill that is actually attributable to the car and charging, something is wrong. I'd start with some calculations.

We have among the highest electric rates in the country. Our off peak rate, before fees, taxes and other items is over 33¢ per kWh. Our peak rate (5pm through 9 am) exceeds 55¢ before taxes. With all that said, my bill hasn't spiked by $176 at any point since I got the mme 5 years ago. Something isn't adding up.
