[Location permission all the time] has always been my setting so I do not think that is the answer.
I changed that setting this morning, and saw some improvement. But I wouldn't call it "fixed". While it seems to be slower to react to changes in direction, and occasionally loses the signal or gets my position wrong, I haven't noticed the GPS signal completely dropping for serveral minutes like I was seeing yesterday.

I'm renting a Hyundai Elantra at the moment and Android Auto maps worked fine. So weird...
I've been having this issue since early last week I think. Wired or wireless AA doesn't matter, same issue on both. Was a bit better this morning on the commute but it seems possible it was some algorithm that just "projected" my path, because GPS would get lost/stuck anytime I made a turn/deviation from the straight path.

I'm quoting this because I also was in a rented Nissan Pathfinder over the weekend and was having the same issue. I unplugged from the head unit and ran Google Maps off my phone instead of AA - then once I was on a straight path I plugged in and somehow still had Google Maps on my phone while AA was on the car (on the media screen). After that, my AA Google Maps was fine for the whole trip. I wasn't able to replicate the Google Maps on-device while AA was on the head unit again, so no clue what happened there. I had hopes it was a server-side fix that happened to hit me in between plug-ins, but then when I got home the GPS was still messed up ?‍♂

I briefly saw somebody mention downgrading the Maps version via sideloading but I haven't tried it yet. Curious if that would help.

Another thought I had was that I was previously hit with the GPS bug where the car's internal GPS was messed up (link), and that had a domino effect of breaking my phone's GPS when it was connected via AA - so the phone was using the same GPS connection as the car at that time. Now, the internal GPS seems to be fine (BlueCruise working) but the phone's GPS is broken, which makes me think that Google definitely changed something to Maps behavior via AA. I do see a bit better tracking when holding the phone up to the driver window, but that's not very feasible. Assuming the AA link to the internal GPS has been messed with, Google should really change it back...

I tried "always access location" setting in Google Maps and it has improved the situation but it isn't totally fixed.

I don't know I'm having similar problems on an iOS device. The car struggles to start the route and then when it does it'll go along but then all the sudden the car will be miles from where I actually am and bounce back and forth throughout the trip.

Have done all recommended settings. AA google maps still cannot find GPS signal. Used to work fine. Junk.

I've also been having the same issue since the most recent @Ford Motor Company Software Update. I use AA Maps GPS very frequently. I hope this gets rectified soon.

There was a thread about this created on some google help forum. An engineer replied this morning that they have identified a fix and will be pushing a maps update soon with the fix.

Yeah I have been seeing that too. I'll try the "always access location" setting in Google Maps and see if that fixes it.
My permissions were already on also access locations; problem not prevented; but worth a try!
