Sorry can’t help much but I do know some earlier owners who had accidents received DV payments but no idea how much.

I'm not surprised given the used EV market. I always opt for some form of insurance company provided gap coverage (never the dealer cause that's expensive af)

You can only get GAP insurance if you have a loan on the car.

Somebody rear-ended my unoccupied Mach e in a parking lot. Their insurance company paid for all repairs (about $4k) and I subsequently filed a DV claim. The insurance company stonewalled me, taking about 6 weeks to finally deny my claim, with me calling them weekly to check status. I then sued the other driver in small claims court and emailed a copy of the claim to their insurance company. They called me within two hours and offered to settle for the full amount of the DV claim (about $1100) if I would file a motion to dismiss, which I agreed to.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Anyone got paid out a Diminished Value claim on their Mach-E? Crash Photo 3 MAY 2022-2

The total repair cost was $21,425. I went online to Tiger DV, and they came back with an "Inherent Diminished Value" of $13,175. I submitted the claim to State Farm, and they came back with an offer of $9,333. Given that the small claims court limit in Colorado is $7500, I decided to accept their offer.

My accident was minor, other guy damaged my liftgate and bumper. It was refinished/repainted. Repair cost was about $1800.

After repairs were completed, I got a Carvana and Vroom quotes. Literally put in my VIN, they gave me an offer of like $33k and a few minutes later, put in same VIN but this time said there was an accident. Offer was like $26k. The spread was about $7k. I asked for $5500 in DV, but they said the max they can do is $2000.

Similar experience here. I was hit, minor damage and I want to recover lost value. Other driver carrier denied liability so non-starter. Presenting the claim to my carrier soon. I've been looking for best ways to establish the differential in value without an appraiser but haven't found anything yet.

Interesting!

Been in involved in diminution in value claims in UK for years and the US appears little different in terms of its application though a little easier.

The amount has to be proven, often with expert witness evidence.

Some so called experts, in my experience, spew out worthless boilerplate standard diminution reports irrespective of age of car, its history, mileage, standard of repair etc

Usually newer cars free from a write off history, with no evidence of previous poor or even good repairs are worthy of higher diminutions.

Consideration also is made to the extent of damage and so by definition the extent to which the car was repaired.

A car not damaged beyond just cosmetic parts & bolt-on panels usually attracts no diminution which scales up (depending on age etc referred to above) where the disturbance of car’s original fabric - welds, joints, sealed joints, structure, additional made joints necessary in the repair etc - are affected.

Settlements usually are based upon retail values.

Sharp-shits who usually attempt claims such as motor traders, lease & rental companies or their advisors should fail in their attempts to claim because they usually sell by auction or other non-retail means in markets that will not in truth even consider the effects of repaired car.

The quality of repair should be correct and reinstate the car’s original condition as close as it possibly can according to Manufacturers’ specifications & standards for a DV claim to succeed fully or at all.

A poorly completed repair either blurs the potential settlement or causes a DV to fail if the diminution is the main or sole consequent effect on a car’s value.

Similarly, a car previously damaged, repaired poorly or not even repaired at all also has a reducing or eliminating effect on a DV claim.

My experience is that insurers in UK make DV claimants prove their claims for such heads of loss unless it is clear, obvious and not overstated.

So, in summary, not usually that straightforward.

Yes, but not worth it. Should have been $5.4K but only gave us $2K.

Insurance companies are evil. They take your money for decades, but they don't pay out.
Our Mach-e was hit in a parking lot. That was covered by the person's corporate policy (company car) and he was nice enough to leave his card.

Then my wife was rear ended on a freeway by a 20 year old with a beater worth nothing with minimal coverage who lives in a $1.7M house with her parents. She admitted fault, even sent my wife a heating pad for her sore back.

We took it in the ass on that one. $18K in damage so her insurance just said no, "over our limit" so our under-insured policy had to cover it. It took 6 weeks to fix it, and we only got 4 weeks of rental coverage.

This car won't be worth crap when we sell it. I wish they'd totaled it. It has not been the same car since.
