Have same issue, I was using the 15 pro max then 16 pro max so it’s definitely not the phone. Had a full car reset in a try to solve this. But not only I have the same thing on Apple Maps/carplay but also with the integrated one.

what I had was a blinking interrogation mark where the car was last power on. System wasn’t able to put it back on current location.

CarPlay was showing me somewhere in that bubble without being able to fix the localisation.

have the car since two months now and already feeling that was the worst choice I could have made. It’s bug on bug and the pitty choice of not updating / fixing bug by software update drive me totally crazy

remember this good old joke from window95 era where « if Microsoft was a car seller … » we are totally in nowadays

When this happens, where is the phone? In your pocket? In the center console? In a backpack or purse?

In the console slot where the charger is.

Nb : I no longer use neither that shitty qi system as both my two phones when they were there goes extremely hot and the CarPlay cordless was draining out my battery. So I put a MagSafe directly connected on the usb c port.

What console slot? Do you mean the center console with the sliding cover behind the cupholders? Is the cover closed or open? Or do you mean the wireless charging tray that is under the center screen? And is the phone face up or face down?

It's the phone. It's been an issue with the 14 pro+ When they switched to the 'super accurate gps chip' It turned to accurate as long as you're not using it. I randomly get the issue with my second pro15 max. This one is slightly better but when the apple maps go walkabout I toss it on the dash infront of the big screen and it goes back to working and accurate within seconds. I can then put it back on the charger in the console. I've even had it go crazy in different rental cars, but always when wireless car play. Corded seems to be fine.

What happens if you move the phone to the cupholder area?

I see this same problem when I have the phone in my right rear pants pocket, with the phone upside down in my pocket. That is, to say, with the camera side pointing downwards and the charge port of the phone sticking out of my pocket.

If I move the phone to

a) the center console under the screen (wireless charging area, but not being wireless charged),
b) the cupholders
c) passenger seat
d) re-orient it so that the top of the phone sticks out of my right rear pants pocket

then the problem disappears and I get a good GPS lock. This is on an iPhone 13.

Well before the mustang I had a Mercedes cla and never had an issue for the past three years with the 13, 14 and 15 pro max. If it’s the phone, it should definitely be how mustang communicate with it …

I didn't like the way Apple maps was working either so I loaded Google Maps on my 14 Pro Max and use that in Carplay and it works, just can't use Siri to navigate.

Has happened to me a couple times. Fixed (?) force quitting Apple Maps (on the phone). Usually happens when phone started out in the car in a bad spot (like my pocket).

Despite multiple conversations with Ford customer service and 2 servicing investigations no one at ford has ever seen the Apple Maps GPS problem . Has anyone found a way to get this to stop happening

I had the same thing happen to me in 2022 for probably a month, and it was right after an OTA update.
I was using the Ford navigation and it showed I was driving right over houses in a neighborhood next to the freeway. I switched to the apple maps using carplay and it was doing the exact same thing. This went on for several weeks.
Eventually, I realized if you disconnected the phone from carplay the apple maps worked just fine on the phone.
I did some internet searches and found that the phone will use the car gps when using carplay.
After a month or so, Ford did another update and the problem went away. So some Ford "engineer" knows what the problem is, but because they do not ever say what they did in the release notes, it is all PFM from the customers perspective.
Which is another reason that Ford irks me, apparently Ford feels us plebes are not worthy to know what they change in the software.

For comparison, here is a video of the Tesla release notes

Thankfully, I don’t have this issue with my 2024 (iPhone 15 pro and now iPhone 16 pro)

Ford software engineering is definitely the Achilles heel of this car…
From FordPass, to nav, etc.
