Yes I know, Spokane is in your profile. I’ve spent a lot of time up there as my parents lived nearby for many decades. I used to be able to step off their second story deck directly onto the snow bank during the winters until about 20 years ago.That’s exactly where I live and have had no issues. Matter fact I have over 5,000,000 miles driving a semi truck with summer tires on it as well.
Most folks don’t have the background you do and don’t have the knowledge to safely operate with a good safety margin with less than good equipment in adverse conditions. They’re the reason for the old axiom, “Experience is what you get after you need it.”
In this case we don’t know if the OP ran summer tires or not. If so, it was almost assuredly a bad decision on multiple levels, even if done unknowingly.
