Just checked out my connected services to check my balance of my free 250kw from Electrify America and this message popped up. When I click it, it just spins in a circle and doesn’t load though. Glad to see, they finally figured out that it’s cheaper to use the native Electrify America app then plug and charge with Ford. Anyone else get it to load after clicking upgrade?

It wasn't loading earlier today for me. I believe there is another post somewhere on the forum regarding the upgrade. They determined it was not a great deal compared to the EA membership.

I called Ford yesterday and they opened a ticket with IT support regarding this issue. I got a call back this morning reporting it was fixed. I was able to login and and "subscribe" to the upgraded membership.

It's $50/year plus (for my in NY) $4 tax. The membership directly through EA is $4/mo, which works out to $48/year. You can cancel and re-add the membership multiple times through EA if you don't road trip frequently. Personally I'm exciting to see the discounted pricing become available with Plug and Charge, which is why I disabled it after my trial ran out. The $6 premium per year for the convenience is worth it for me.

It's only $6 a year more IF you travel monthly. Otherwise, since EA is so easy to upgrade and downgrade, you have to value Plug and Charge a lot.

One thing I don't know is whether long term Plug and Charge is more successful than EA's app. We used Plug and Charge a few times and then our free hours were gone. EA did fail on it some of those times, and also fail using their own app. Depending on which gets ironed out sooner, Plug and Charge could be worth a premium if it always worked and you travel a good deal of time.

For those not knowing, you can upgrade to EA's Pass+ in under 30 seconds in the app. You can then IMMEDIATELY downgrade. The downgrade will take place 30 days later. So, if I decided to take a trip tomorrow, I could upgrade before I left the house (vs. today, buying me one more day), and then downgrade immediately so I wouldn't have to remember to a month later. Easy, peasy.

For now I'm sticking with the EA Pass+, turned on for those months when I need it (as @RickMachE mentions above). Once my Lightning is delivered I'll probably just spring for it. Between the two of them (and no ICE vehicle left in the house) I think it will be worth the annual cost to get the P&C convenience.

I have a feeling you'll have to pay the $50 per year per vehicle in that situation. Connected services are tied to the VIN.

You mentioned Lightning and now I'm angry all over again. Wish Ford would just sell more than one or two to in our whole fucking state.

There is another thread about this, since January 13:

https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...-blueoval-electrify-america-membership.13315/

No one has actually received the discounted rates so far while using Plug and Charge. The rollout is handled poorly, looking as if they didn't even test this new feature before signing up paying customers. Be prepared to be a beta tester for Ford if you sign up now.

I signed up for Pass+ with Electrify America last weekend and the discount received for 40kWh was $5.12 including taxes. It took only seconds to upgrade to Pass+ and the discount exceeded the $4 expense in just one charging session.

I checked on this with a contact in Ford. Here's what he said:

It will be a bit complex up front, working to make it more simple long term.

While a customer should technically have BOCN / BO EA* for each VIN, here is how it can work.

  • If one VIN in your FP account has a subscriptions to BOCN and BO EA – you can access and pay for either vehicle by activating the charger through the FordPass interface.
  • The one piece that doesn’t currently work this way is Plug & Charge. Due to the unique protocols and security comms between vehicle/charger our system is currently setup for a subscription to be tied with one VIN.
Again – we are working through how to shift these paradigms, but haven’t cracked it yet.

So no P&C sharing the membership. If you want P&C with the discount rate, you'll have to pay $50 per year per VIN. Or have the discount on one car with P&C, and use the ford app to activate for the other car.

Same kind of thing with VW and their free charging. The free charging gets added to your EA account, and then any time you activate a charger from the app its free. Doesn't matter what car you plug in after activating. (this could go away once VW adds P&C)
