It worked for the BlueCruise map update.
Can’t say if it would work for any other updates. I HOPE it does.

So, I have called Ford BEV support three times this week.
Background:
Picked up car (bought ordered car) on 12/17/2022. I had asked the dealer to run all software, firmware, module updates before I picked it up. When I sat in it at the dealer, the large main screen said "Update Complete" so I assumed they did as I asked.
Driving home, and since then, BlueCruise "works" but not in hands free mode.
January 4, 2023 I received a notice that I received a Power-Up and I'm now on 3.5.2.... What? 3.5.2 was released back in September.
I check my map expiration date and saw that my Bluecruise maps expired on December 10, 2022.... before I picked up the car.

Anyway, back to Ford BEV support.
Yesterday they told me that they could see that my car was downloading 3.5.3.
Today, no 3.5.3. I called Ford BEV support and they saw that the 3.5.3 install failed. No reason in their system. So, I do the recommended pre-requisites for successful updates (Drive or leave car on 30 minutes, make sure it has WiFi signal, Park it, Turn on Parking Brake). We'll see on that.

On to the BlueCruise map update.
First, they advised that at least version 3.5.2 is required to enable the system to properly check for map updates.
Next.... This is the silliness.
They said that they had luck doing the following:
1. Get in the car.
2. Turn on the car.
3. Turn off the car.
4. Open the door.
5. Lock the doors using the lock button on the door
6. Close the door.
7. Walk away (get keys or phone for PAAK) out of range of the car
8. Wait for the parking and interior lights to turn off
9. Repeat 10 times

Here's the crazier part.
It worked.
My BlueCruise Maps expiration is now March 14, 2023.

I have not driven it yet to try out Hands-Free BlueCruise, but will report when I do.
They told me to try something similar, but leave it on for 30 minutes before locking and shutting but only told me to do it once. It didn’t work.
Maybe I’ll try this shortened version 10 times tomorrow. I think it’s just simulating 10 cycles which we’ve done but it’s worth trying.

It is known (I believe) that every 10 key cycles it checks in with the servers for available updates/info. They wanted to make sure you properly cycled it at least 10 times.
I wonder if something on the backend has changed. There is/was a glitch that it wouldn’t check. We’ve definitely cycled ours 10 times over the three weeks we’ve had it and ours still won’t update.

I believe these are two different methods for two different things. I went through both with Ford BEV support.

Power-Up Update Guidelines
  1. Make sure your car has an update schedule in Settings
  2. Run the car 30 minutes
  3. Make sure your car has WiFi connection
  4. Turn off car
  5. Turn on Parking Break
  6. Lock the car
  7. Walk away

Exact. Same. Scenario. Took delivery 2 weeks ago. Asked that they update everything. Yes, yes, no problem. Noticed after a few days that my maps were expired back in October and my Sync was on 3.X something. Took it in today to get unexpired maps and see if they could get Sync up to 4.1.2. So THEY did the 10X cycle thingie like you did and pulled in a map update good until April 2023 and my Sync, and they were so proud of this, got me updated from 3.5.3 to 3.5.3.3 LOL. I am happy to have the maps back, but for only 3 months? Then what?

Weird, the rep must have given me a combination of both.
When I called about BC not updating, I got:

1. Set schedule
2. Verify Auto updates on
3. Ignition on 30 minutes
4. Ignition Off
5. Open driver's door
6. Lock while open
7. Close door
8. Wait 5 min
9. Get back in and turn ignition on
10. Check Settings - System updates section
11. Status information - look for success icon

(what I’m assuming is status information was just saying up to date on mine. Didn’t see an icon or anything)

It will (read: should) auto update automatically. BC checks for updates every 10 cycles. When it gets close to expiration it will update.

Took delivery of my 23 on the 14th of December. No BC. Then about 2 weeks later, BC activates all of a sudden. No OTA updates, no reboots, no trips back to the dealer, nothing special. Good things come to boys who wait.

This is about the 5th different thread I've seen on this site.
Clearly you finally got to the 10th time of starting and stopping your car.

How long did it take to show the update after you did this? I just spent some time this morning doing this with no luck (yet). After 10th (and 11th to be sure) I’m still showing Sept 10, 2022. Maybe I need to give it time. I’ll check back in a bit.

They should put a warning on the car that it may increase the severity and incidence of OCD behavior in those who have been diagnosed with OCD or may have underlying undiagnosed OCD. Like the flickering lights epilepsy warning for shows and video games.

Ford OTA dept told me the same start/stop/lock steps, and to wait 2 min between each cycle. I was wondering this as well, and whether it waited for the automatic update schedule.

ah I didn’t wait the full two minutes between every single one, just most.
Maybe I’ll try again later.
I wish Ford would tell us what power up version we were on in the app or car

I’m going to try this 30-min run time with remote start this morning. I have it plugged into my L1 mobile charger at home and strong WiFi/Telematics signal here. Will report back.

Update. Called BEV team. This rep told me different things than the first one. Apparently I have 3.5.2 queued up (for who knows how long) and if it doesn’t show up ā€œsoonā€ I need to go to the dealer.
Explains why the procedure this morning didn’t work.
