I see you own a GT. If you don't run the car at speed enough, it gets bored and will take matters into its own hands. Shame on you.

Turn off speed sign recognition. It will accelerate when it sees a different speed limit sign based off your set tolerance. You might have it set to +20 mph over the limit.
i'm pretty sure richard wants to turn off Predictive Speed Assist (under cruise control) not necessarily Speed Sign Recognition. i have it set this way (predictive off, recognition on) and the detected speed limit shows in the IPC but doesn't affect any actual speed settings when in any cruise control mode.

I agree that as a whole I'm glad for this feature and I use it frequently. Are there issues with it? Yes! It's not perfect. But you only hear about it when there's an issue (which is not often by my own experience)

How does that compare to the prior price? That averages out to about $600 USD per year, a more reasonable price than the current USD $800/year.

When I ordered my '22 Select, I was price protected under the '21 MSRP. The Comfort & Technology Package then went up $600 for the '22 model year. I attributed that to Ford now including 3 year BlueCruise subscription. $200 CAD per year was more reasonable. But that is ancient history. I won't renew if Ford doesn't come to their senses.

I turned mine off on day 2 of ownership. The mountain pass I commute over has a 55 mph speed limit for cars and a 35 mph limit for trucks. The car could not distinguish between the two.

This past Friday night I was using Blue Cruise on my way home. I was cruising comfortably at 75mph for about 10 miles when the car suddenly accelerated to 90. I turned off Blue Cruise and tried to use it again and the problem repeated itself and in short order.

I have attempted to get it to do it again since in the day and at night and it has not popped up again.

Has anyone heard of this before? Is there a known issue?

Be aware that this is not really a BlueCruise problem. This is a single feature as part of the adaptive cruise control.

Remember that Blue Cruise and Adaptive Cruise Control are Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Know the systems limitations and operate your vehicle accordingly.

You have read the manual to know how to operate your Blue Cruise and Adaptive Cruise Control, right?

Speed Sign Recognition

WARNING: You are responsible for controlling your vehicle at all times. The system is designed to be an aid and does not relieve you of your responsibility to drive with due care and attention. Failure to follow this instruction could result in the loss of control of your vehicle, personal injury or death.

WARNING: In cold and severe weather conditions the system may not function. Rain, snow and spray can all limit sensor performance.

WARNING: The system may not operate properly if the sensor is blocked. Keep the windshield free from obstruction.

WHAT IS SPEED SIGN RECOGNITION
Speed sign recognition detects speed limit signs to inform you of the current speed limit. Detected speed signs appear in the instrument cluster display.

HOW DOES SPEED SIGN RECOGNITION WORK
Speed sign recognition uses a sensor behind the interior mirror to detect speed signs.
If your vehicle has speed sign recognition with navigation, stored speed sign data may influence the indicated speed limit value.

SPEED SIGN RECOGNITION PRECAUTIONS
Note: Do not carry out windshield repairs in the immediate area surrounding the sensor.
Note: If your vehicle has a suspension kit not approved by Ford, the system may not correctly function.
Note: The system may not detect all speed signs and may incorrectly read signs.
Note: Always fit our original parts when replacing headlamp bulbs. Other bulbs may reduce system performance.
SPEED SIGN RECOGNITION LIMITATIONS
Speed sign recognition may not operate correctly due to:

  • Outdated map data.
  • Incorrect recognition of speed limits by the sensor of signs on parallel roads or exit ramps.
  • Missed recognition of faded, dirty, or distorted signs.
    SPEED SIGN RECOGNITION INDICATORS
When the system detects a speed limit sign, it appears in the instrument cluster display.

Note: Sign indicator image may vary based on your vehicle's display type.

SETTING THE SPEED SIGN RECOGNITION SPEED
WARNING
1. Press the button on the touchscreen.

  1. Press Driver Assistance.
  2. Press Speed Limit Assist.
  3. Select to switch the feature on or off.

SETTING THE SPEED SIGN RECOGNITION SPEED TOLERANCE
  1. Press Driver Assistance.
  2. Press Speed Limit Assist.
  3. Press Tolerance.
  4. Use the slider bar to select the required level.

Not an excusable error. Ford will be experiencing some big jury damage and punitive settlements if it is not fixed.

it is two features: Predictive Speed Assist along with Speed Sign Recognition.

Predictive Speed Assist is the one folks are complaining about here that actually changes speeds while in ACC or BlueCruise. you can turn it off if you don't want that and all Speed Sign Recognition does is flash the speed limit sign at you on the IPC.

of course, if you turn off Speed Sign Recognition it also disables Predictive Speed Assist.

Those are only separate features if you have BC 1.2. For anyone with a 2021 or 2022 car, you have to turn off Speed Sign Recognition. Since that setting is under Cruise Control, it doesn't affect the speed limit signs showing up in the IPC.

You seem to be missing some key points that Ford has informed the owner/operator in the manual:

BLUECRUISE PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: You are responsible for keeping your eyes on the road at all times. The system is designed to be an aid and does not relieve you of your responsibility to drive with due care and attention. Failure to follow this instruction could result in the loss of control of your vehicle, personal injury or death.

There are more but I think the first two would take negate your theory.

Were you on Route 90? Do you have speed limit detection on? Sometimes the speed limit detection misinterprets numbers on non-speed limit signs as the speed limit. It has caused both unintended acceleration and deceleration, depending on what driving mode people were using.
Lucky you got it turned off before you got to Hwy 101.
