what is the advantage of this network? Discounts you have with the companies in this network will not apply if you use the Ford app to pay for the charge

If I'm interpreting the thread correctly, Blue Oval provides these three things:
* A single app to pay for charging across multiple charging networks
* The "plug and charge" integration with EA, that makes it very easy to configure a charging session (and to use your free kWh that came with your new MME purchase)
* Access to 12,000 Tesla Superchargers, beginning next year

You mean this was planned as a paid service? It shouldn't be. Doesn't Ford they get a piece of the charging money when used?

Wonder how much it will cost considering the nutty upcharge for BlueCruise recently announced.

BlueOval Network is ford's Plug&Charge system. EA is one of many current providers available to use the Plug&Charge system with Superchargers coming in "early 2024" - more information here.

the FordPass app is there for you to manage your account, payment method, and possibly locate compatible charging stations; it doesn't directly participate in the Plug&Charge process.

BlueOval currently only gets you access to pay-as-you-go rates (usually the highest rate) at the providers but at least the concept of paying through your FordPass account (when it works) is built in. if you want better rates it is usually better to use the provider's app, (possibly) membership, and payment methods.

if ford continues on its path of charging subscriptions for these small conveniences i expect they will have a single digit take rate on this as well.

Many? Aren't they currently the ONLY? The other partners listed do work with the BlueOval Network, but don't support Plug&Charge.

Compatible with BlueOval, yes. Compatible with Plug&Charge, no.
ah, i do see ford is obfuscating their documentation (which should be my base assumption): they don't specify which networks are Plug&Charge vs FordPass activated.

As long as the actual unit you’re about to use is recognized by FordPass as being part of the particular network you’re good. As an example, there are 7 Shell Recharge stations on this rock. Not one appears in FP but all appear in the Shell Recharge app. Ditto for CP.

You can see in the FordPass app which networks support Plug & Charge. The list isn't long.

I used SemaConnect (now Blink) while on vacation. It was not “plug & charge” and I used their app as I block all L2 chargers on my Blue Oval filter. This charger was an L2.

I have Pass+ on EA and will use that when I charge the MME or my Rivian (which only has P&C on their limited network). I do keep Plug & Charge active and also set up EVGO Autocharge+ for the MME. Thsoe two networks cover Phoenix very well.

My wife is not tech savvy at all and has no EV apps on her phone, not even Ford Pass. The MME is primarily for her, so if she needs to charge, it is easy for her to just plug in. She keeps her fob in her purse, does not need PAAK either.

If Elon is to be believed, the Tesla super charger network will have built in CCS adapters, aka "magic dock" so one "just" needs to use the Tesla app.

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a42913649/tesla-opening-us-supercharger-network/

Providing access to non-Telsas is a requirement for Elon to get a cut of the federal charger infrastructure spending that is part of the infrastructure investment and jobs act.

From: https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing...act-sheet-the-bipartisan-infrastructure-deal/

Build a national network of electric vehicle (EV) chargers. U.S. market share of plug-in EV sales is only one-third the size of the Chinese EV market. That needs to change. The legislation will invest $7.5 billion to build out a national network of EV chargers in the United States. This is a critical step in the President’s strategy to fight the climate crisis and it will create good U.S. manufacturing jobs. The legislation will provide funding for deployment of EV chargers along highway corridors to facilitate long-distance travel and within communities to provide convenient charging where people live, work, and shop. This investment will support the President’s goal of building a nationwide network of 500,000 EV chargers to accelerate the adoption of EVs, reduce emissions, improve air quality, and create good-paying jobs across the country.
