Hi,
I just got Borla's Active Performance Sound System. I received it last week. Looking at the manual, I'm was not conformable taking apart my car to install it myself. I reached out to Borla and they suggested I go to a Car Audio place. I settled on Zautosound. They are in my area. They did a great job. I dropped the car off around 10:30am and the car was done around 4:30PM the same day. Even the installer, who is a motor head, liked the way it sounds. My wife, on the other hand, has no idea why I'm doing this. :)

The interesting thing is the car feels different. Maybe it kinda reminds me of my Saleen Mustang I used to own. At the moment it comes with 4 sound selections. Ford Mustang 5.0L GT, Ford Mustang GT500, Chevrolet C8 and Dodge SRT 392. I have attached all 4 sound selections. After the new year, Borla will release an App which will allow you to change the selected sounds.

I have been getting varying responses from my friend. Some get it some don't. I like it because the low speed sound tends to get ignored by pedestrians. They can ignore may car now...

One of the things I like is that I have complete control over the type of sound and the volume. With my Saleen Mustang my neighbor's would know when I came home at night because they could here my car. Not with this. Also, I'm not stuck with always the same sound...

The question is: Which one would you pick?

I had some interest in this 18 months ago, then it got delayed, then they promised me a great discount for being so patient. Then it was launched for $1,606.99 and I lost interest. Maybe for a few hundred.

Is the sound all internal or are there external speakers?

It is all external, like an exhaust system. Speakers are mounted just to the rear of the rear tires, up under the diaper.

No offense, but I think this is the noise pollution equivalent of rolling coal. I'm all for blasting out your ear drums with internal speakers, but don't bother your neighbors if there is an option. How does that bring you more enjoyment?

But each to their own.

If I had it (which I don't), I would use it at an EV event as a gag. Or, the auto driving show where all the cars drive a circuit through downtown, revving engines. Not in daily driving. But at their price, would never consider it. And I agree, having this on for regular driving is noise pollution. Eventually police will ticket an EV for doing this.

Mine is in the garage and just have to find time to install. The missing sound is the only thing I don’t like about my EVs. I respect others that like silence but this is best of both worlds as easily can turn off. My supercharged LS3 with headers not so much lol.

My sound preference is a Ram Air IV. Good thing I have a stupidly over-sized one in my T/A. I like my electric car to not make noise other than its whirring and glugging noises. ??

Haha, I kinda unironically want this now, just want to see the reaction of all the ICE Mustangs that pull up next to me and rev their engines. You can put it in park and just press the Go pedal and it will make the sounds?

I wish I brought it to a shop. I have the speaker installed and still have to run the wire and install the other 3/4 of it. My wife is also confused why I bought it, but my son will always be there to support me. He's waiting for the app sounds, he wants an F22 or F35 sound. As for the noise pollution comments, I'll definitely turn it down or off in the neighborhood, otherwise I'm going to crank it. I have a orange GTPE, not a prius. I'm also the guy in traffic who requests engine revs and burn outs ?

I get that Borla is trying to adapt to the EV future, but I don’t understand spending $1600 on this. I don’t even like the idea of fake noise being piped into the passenger compartment of certain ICE vehicles. But, to each their own. I hope you enjoy this.

This is equally and both at the same time completely genius and utterly ridiculous! Now, if only it came with "rice burner" mode, all my dreams of having the most annoying EV would come true!
You mean the fart pipe sound? ?? My Toyotas had tube headers and Flowmasters on them. Aside from the tree bark-stripping sound the carbs made, they sounded like real performance cars running 10.2K RPM. ??
