Wait, who said they never want to go past 80%? All I want is a configurable default. Let me phrase it another way: Why does Ford recommend 90% but default to 100% (and make it so difficult to choose anything other than 100%)?Not sure what the heartburn here is for. I have one location saved - home (I stopped working because it was getting annoying.) At location, home, I have it set for 90%. It always works, at least until the next OTA which usually dumps the location for some reason. If I was going to work and work had a charger, then I probably would have two locations set to 90%. Maybe, though, I’d set the work one to 100% if it was free?. On the road, I’m either DCFC (unplugging at 80 or 90%) or overnight charging at a hotel or other location On a level 2. For the overnights, on the road, I’ll take 100% for the added range in the morning and especially if it’s free?. Anywhere else, like an in-town ChargePoint at a restaurant or shopping area, I’m usually not there long enough to get to 100% from a level 2.
Why do you never want to charge past 80%?
Here was my experience today. For me, this indeed is a little bit of "heartburn" for a $60k car:
- Plugged into a new Chargepoint location and went into my office.
- Tried to tell FordPass that I want it to stop at 85%. Turns out, you can't do that, even though FordpPass has the car's map location and allows you to edit charge settings for existing locations and even previous locations. Just not "current" locations? Wtf.
- Went back out to the car and saved this location from the car's interface, and set it to an 85% limit.
- Went back into the office and loaded FordPass. Of course, dealt with the FordPass bug on the home page that shows the wrong state of charge.
- Loaded the the charge details via the vehicle page.
- Noticed the charge details still show that it's targeting 100% for some reason but, oddly, the estimated charging time definitely corresponded to 85%. Another bug I guess. I had no idea if it would stop at 85% or go to 100%.
- Finally went out and unplugged my car (30 minutes before the estimated charging time would be done) at 83% because I was going into 2 hours of meetings and didn't want it going to 100%.
