Carplay GPS issues

Hi

Having issues with wireless Carplay and using apple maps, google maps, waze etc.

All the map apps on Carplay basically put me on roads I am not on, in fields etc, way way way out and then will have a complete hissy fit, never locking on and reporting my location incorrectly 95% of the time, a reboot, repair, toggle of location settings on the iphone 12 (latest iOS) sometimes fixes it but this is something I shouldnt need to be doing to get it to work.

Native sat nav works fine on sync4a (again the latest updated version) and andriod auto works fine with google maps, waze etc.

Anyone else having this and know a solution? It odd theat Apple Carplay is doing this as generally speaking Apple apps, functions are more stable than android auto but not in this case.

I've had this issue frequently. Usually, I can greatly improve it by taking my phone out of my pocket and setting it near the cupholders or on the charging mat. GPS reception seems to be much better there. Also, you can try deleting your phone from the car and deleting your car from the CarPlay settings and then re-setting it back up - that helped once when my phone location was really far off.

Interestingly enough, I have had the exact opposite issue, Ford nav is off course, but Apple Maps works fine. That has actually not occurred for me in recent months.

I am not sure how to check the sat signals on the phone, but you may need to move the phone in the car to get a better signal. I normally use the phone on the charging pad.

I also had this issue sometimes when the phone was in my pocket but never have had it when it is laying on the charging pad. It has been rock solid on the pad.

Yes unpaired, deleted and readded, thing is when I disable carplay Google maps, apple maps, Waze etc works fine on the phone so to me this isn't a phone gps issue it's a sync4a and carplay specific problem. If you click the link I posted it appears at least a noticible amount of people experience the same problem regularly

Yea this happens to me quite often. The worst is when it completely freezes your location in the road. I’ve driven for multiple miles before with no update on the car play screen. Most of the time if I unlock my phone it wakes it up and updates to my position. I wonder if it’s a sleep issue?

i had your issue and it was a hardware issue with the car, the dealer had to replace the antenna

I had this issue occur periodically from when I got the car, until I received 4.1.2. Has not happened since.

I had apple maps freeze and not update location. It also showed me driving through Lake Michigan a few times. Never noticed if the phone was in my pocket or on the mat. I once tried switching from Apple Maps to Google Maps and the latter it worked better for me.

Will keep an eye and report back.

I've definitely experienced it - CarPlay is supposed to get supplemental navigation info from the car and there's some issue with CarPlay and the MachE that seems to mess up. It was really annoying on the freeway because it kept thinking I was on the neighborhood streets 1/4 mi away and made nav completely useless. Deleting and readding fixed that issue for me, but it still often gets confused in certain places. I've had much better luck in those cases with my phone on the charging pad or in a cupholder than in my pocket.

So from the replies it appears it's basically a Ford fcuk up problem, not surprised!!!

My issue isn't related to the location of the iPhone as I am holding it in the passenger seat whilst the other half is driving and all maps apps are the same, location all over the place

Same issue and it’s gotten worse over the past month of having the latest power up. Probably another fix one thing break another software update from ford.

If I put my phone over the hazards/park assist buttons it seems to work better. But then I floor the car and the phone goes flying.

Wonder if it’s a phone sleep or driving focus issue.

I've experienced this but what I've noticed is it only happens if the device is locked.

I don't know why but everytime I unlock the iPhone, my location/CarPlay GPS updates immediately and everything is fine for a while and I turn off the screen. If it freezes up again, I just unlock my phone again.
