I have a Thule rack on my roof and was strapping a large PVC pipe onto the rack. My elbow hit the roof and cracked it. It took much less force than I expected to cause the damage. Repair was $1700, covered by insurance. I didn't want a glass roof, and if Ford had offered me a choice, I would have refused.

Any chance the Thule roof bars are stressing the roof? I have them too and you do have to clamp them quite tight. I wonder if the added stress from each side compounded by your elbow hitting the roof may have been the proverbial straw that broke the stallion’s back.

I’m hoping the 2026 or 27s have a hitch mount for a bike rack, even if they limit the car to virtually no real towing. It could avoid the implied result in your question,

You can easily add a hitch mount to a current model...

I twice replaced the glass roof on my Premium. Traded it in recently for a GT and no glass roof was a must. Don't really miss it since it's outside my peripheral view when I'm driving.

Easily on the mainland. Around here? No.
I'm a 60 year old retired guy and did the install in less than an hour with basic hand tools and a pair of rhino ramps.... just sayin'

Good for you. Really. Some of us can’t do that for a wide variety of reasons.

alternatively, local shops quoted 1.5 hours of labor to install it.

Man that sucks! Its interesting to read all the comments regarding the glass top. I wad surprised to see how many people don’t like it. I live in Florida and the only thing I was concerned about was the heat, even tho I waited to get one with the glass top. Having the glass top and the gray carbonized metallic color were my “must-have”. Thankfully no issues with the heat at all, I am impressed I made it thru the summer and not once I thought the sun/heat made it uncomfortable. Feels like having a convertible…well, the closest thing at least lol…
Any way your glass top was defective? I’m not even sure if there is a way to check.

I did my best to install the rack correctly. The supports rest solely on the metal portion of the roof.

But with regard to stress, let me tell you a little story about carrying a 17' sea kayak. The bow line from my kayak got loose and caught under the right front tire. The tire pulled the line, which pulled the bow of my kayak, nearly breaking it in half at the front rack. Later, I discovered that the force had also pulled the rack hard enough into the car to dent the metal under the rack support. That was a lot of force. I have no idea whether or how that force affected the glass; the glass breakage occurred several months later.

Wtf!!! That’s crazy! That had to be scary as sh**
I’m assuming nothing happened and nothing happened besides what you wrote. It could’ve been so much worse, but still sucks about all of it… like I said in my other comment, I do enjoy the glass top a lot, but I wouldn’t even strap a Christmas tree even if I had a rack lol.
Did that incident mess up the tire at all? If you don’t mind me asking, did you fix the dent? Too bad about the Kayak, they are not cheap!

Tire is fine, as far as I can tell. Maybe it lifted a proverbial eyebrow to inquire, "What's all the ruckus up there?" But I don't think it cared one whit beyond that.

I have not fixed the dent, nor do I plan to. I figure I'll have plenty of opportunity to continue to add dents over the years. We tend to drive cars until they have no resale value beyond scrap, so dents won't matter in the long run.
