I have a Thule rack on my roof and was strapping a large PVC pipe onto the rack. My elbow hit the roof and cracked it. It took much less force than I expected to cause the damage. Repair was $1700, covered by insurance. I didn't want a glass roof, and if Ford had offered me a choice, I would have refused.

I am with you on that. I ordered a 24 and waited 5 months rather than buying an existing 23 just because a glass roof was not acceptable to me. That, and all the 23s had black/very dark grey upholstery. In New Mexico those are both bad ideas.

Every single 2023 I shopped for in Minnesota had a glass roof. I would have much preferred a steel roof but the deals on cars off the lot were too good to pass up.

My 23 GT was too good of a deal to pass up even though it has the glass roof. I don't get the appeal .

The glass roof can withstand 2” hail, but the fact your elbow broke it tells me it was a very hard impact, there was a pointed rock or something under it, or there was an existing defect that was exploited. A steel roof would have likely been dented with the force required to break the glass.

Sorry to hear about OP's roof breaking.
I love my pano roof, though. Few downsides, although one is the possibility of breakage. It isn't any hotter than other cars I've had and the view and airiness it imparts to the interior is nice.
One advantage I haven't seen mentioned here is that it is much easier to care for. It doesn't need to be waxed/ceramic coated, and if bird droppings get on the glass, there isn't a danger of the acid damaging the paint. Less time and trouble to wash the car.

I can live with a dent. A dent doesn't spread across the entire roof. I realize the glass is laminated and wasn't in immediate danger of falling on my head, but I'm sure the overall strength was compromised.

I haven't been as nice to my car as I should. I'll have to get some more pics of the dents I put in the roof when I broke my kayak...

After 4 years, I doubt I could return to a non glass pano. Mine has survived 2 kids worth of happy meal toys being thrown into it. Hockey sticks and hail have plunked it. Absolutely love it.

Sorry about your luck.

On another note, shattered the drivers side window with a rock from a mower. Wonder if those should be removed lol.

Moral of story, cracks happen in any window.

Yup, definitely should be removed — mowers are evil. ;)
