Love this letter.
"You may also exp. a burning smell or melting of the pins."
So yeah, to me this looks like a forced full downgrade of the charging rate to 32 or less. Fantastic fix. Because they can't fix overheating/melting pins with a software upgrade to make them not melty.

"We suggest you get the OTA"
Also unpossible, thanks guys! 2 fer 2!

I'd love to get a mobile service person to come out.

Not like the chargers were run away and charging L2 at 90 to 100 amp to cause the burnt smell and melting. They were charging at 40 to 48 amp, on a breaker, to cause it and therefore appears we may have another defective design. We also may know what Ford intends to do about it. Software to slow down charging (like a limp mode for your charging) and the government should again be satisfied for a bit when Ford explains the software should stop potential fires. Having home charging with speeds up to 6 KW should again be great for resale. Especially when it charges that slow as to not melt the port or have a burnt smell. They have you covered it shouldn't caught on fire.

Just can not make this stuff up and it is becoming obvious that the engineers are not determining directions or ethics within the Ford Motor Company. I hope what they save now will be worth it to them in the future. Leaving owners to deal with serious design flaws while providing absolutely no transparency or care may fit in with people looking for an EV at this stage. Based on sales word of how some fix their own mistakes maybe getting around.

6.6 coming to you OTA "soon™" ;)

Went to my dealer yesterday and they schedule the update for three days later with pickup and delivery. Could have done it the next day but wasn't convenient. Just need to put a not on the car for them to NOT wash it because of PPF and ceramic coating.:)
tell them at drop-off too. i had a literal sign from my detailer right next to my tire locks and they still washed it after changing the tires.
no damage, just soap scum left over. bringing them the bill to clean it properly.

I believe @Mach-Lee already has this installed. If so, he (or anyone who has received PU 6.6.0) could confirm if the L2 charge rate has been derated.

I got all excited the other night when I pulled up my Empoira graph. Then realized I had set the charger to 32amps weeks ago, which was why it wasn't derating lol. i thought the 'cooler' (it's still hitting the 90's here) temps helped, but tis only a brain fart.

No, it doesn’t cap rate, you can still get 40+ amps. My charge port never derates, so I can’t tell if the latest software changed anything. We will have to wait for an affected vehicle to install the software and see if they report a change.

I got the letter in yesterday’s mail. I stopped reading when it said I would get the update via OTA. Sure I will. Not when there is an OTA freeze on my car. Maybe I will pony up for an FDRS license in a few weeks. Maybe I won’t since my EVSE is 32A. ??

I was just about to write that I would give feedback after my dealer does the update next Tuesday but then realized my Autel in Florida doesn’t derate , the Juicebox in New York does.

but here is what I do expect.

after the update my Autel will now derate down to 32 amp even though it was operating just fine before the update, why, because why not!

I haven't received a letter yet so learned about 23B50 through this forum yesterday. Rang up my dealer (Autonation Bellevue), they booked me in for this morning and delivered the car an hour ago. Plugged it into my L2 Juicebox and the charging curve after 30 minutes looks the same, currently 9.63kW. In case anyone's interested, here's the itemized list of what was done.

I received the letter a couple of days ago but had already updated my car (FDRS) and have not seen any change in my charging. My Emporia charger is always set at 48A Max charge and like you, have never seen it derate while charging.
