But in comparison to other EVs, it is hard to imagine why people would go to Mach-E if they had another EV already as Mach-E does not excel in any particular category.
Um, …, I think it looks better than almost all of them - at least in the price range, and that includes the Ionic5?. There is the Porsche, sure, but I could buy 3 MME’S for one of those, right.
I agree, Mach-E does look better. But did you actually drive the Ioniq5?

My point was, Mach-E
- does not drive very well (comfort, handling) compared to competition
- does not charge very fast (Ioniq has 240kW peak charge rate, which does make a difference and I made 6k miles in 4 months with that car)
- does not impress with HW quality (your experience might be different, but my car was in the shop like 6-7 times in 3y and 25k miles. Right now I am waiting for a door to be replaced because the hinge had catastrophic failure (??))
- SW is not great. As much as I like BC, the responsiveness of the screen and the under-utilization of the front display are subpar to other brands
- SW update policy and communication remain a mystery to me after 3y of ownership

I would never buy it, but the GM platform is very capable in comparison. Hyundai with 700V platform is remarkable in charging performance, especially for the price. BMW has unbeatable quality in the segment, I leased 2 of their EVs and never a single issue.

And regarding price, other brands lease much better, can have higher MSRP car for same monthly.

Overall, it's an OK car, but not more. Beautiful though.
I would never buy a GM product because it doesn’t have Apple CarPlay

Hello:

I have a 2021 Ford Mustang MACH-E (of course), and I love my EV. Something got me thinking as I was reading the posts here to ask what I believe are geniune questions, and that is:
  • 1) Would you keep, lease/loan, or buy another MACH-E
  • 2) If you wanted to get out of the MACH-E into a different EV or ICE, give your reason to why
  • 3) What is the biggest shortcoming or drawback that is keeping EV buyers from choosing the MACH-E
I can say that since I've owned my MACH-E in August '24, I loved it except for the growing pains of the Level 3 charging (that got fixed), the delay of the Tesla Charging Adapter, delay of the BC 1.3 (and, I still have the issue of the Lane Centering / Lane Change sliders not working), and the Ford Service Center only having one EV guy (which slows down the wait time for repair delivery, except for Quick Lane on maintenance).

So, please let out your thoughts and feelings about your MACH-E experience.

Thank you.
Read a couple of months ago in Motor Trend that a survey of EV owners indicated that only 1% would go back to an ICE vehicle.
The problem is ignorance, the mother of prejudice, primarily spread by the right wing propaganda to prop up the oil and gas industries. And also from the left with carrots (incentives) and sticks (mandates for EV adoption).
Here on the West Coast where gas prices are consistently higher than the rest of the nation, EVs are everywhere, but the fact is, the cost of purchasing and home charger installation has got to come down before widespread adoption becomes a reality. Love my ‘24 MME and plan to keep to keep it until the wheels fall off.
NOTEs- on an extensive road trip last fall, the hardest place to find an open charger (Tesla or otherwise) was Los Angeles.
Just returned from three weeks in Europe-saw four MMEs. Rented a diesel BMW 323 and averaged about 45 MPG (even with 115 mph autobon runs). Saw very few EV charging stations.

    • Yes, and just did. Going from a 2021 Premium AWD to a 2025 GT. BTW, which I am waiting for delivery.
  • 2) If you wanted to get out of the MACH-E into a different EV or ICE, give your reason to why
    • If I had to routinely drive to a place where I could not get there and back without charging, I would go to a hybrid.
  • 3) What is the biggest shortcoming or drawback that is keeping EV buyers from choosing the MACH-E
    • General EV issues, range, lack of charging stations on the highways. If on a trip, I do not want to get off the highway into some town to find a charger. The gas stations and rest stops should have charges.
    • Mach-E issues: No sure, other owners I speak with tend to love their cars, I do.

Would I buy another Mach-E? I already did. Got out of my 2021 GT-PE and into a 2024 GT with the PU. (STINKY option!) ??

Is there another car I would buy? Not at the moment, but I could be enticed into a Gen2 Trans Am or Formula if it were the right car at the right price. Just a toy to play with and then sell though. ?‍♂?

Biggest MME shortcoming? I guess battery technology. When there is better technology that stores more juice and charges faster, I guess I might get into it. Then again, I really like my 2024 so maybe I wouldn't jump to another car for quite some time. ??

I had Honda’s before and wouldn’t mind going back, but I don’t think they have an equivalent to what I want. I like having something sportier. And right now Honda doesn’t have an EV platform and I don’t think I’d want to get their first one. I’ve been through enough on the Mach E.
Well, Honda does have an EV now - the Prologue. It’s not bad looking but more like a soccer mom wagon. Don’t know what it’s numbers are but I have seen a few of them around.

So have I. I’m guessing it’s not that sporty (for an EV). If it existed when I was buying at first I probably would’ve bought it to stay with Honda. But at this point I don’t know what Honda‘s future is. If they stay with the GM platform, OK but then they don’t control their destiny. If they make their own then they’re starting all over again where as GM had a bunch of experience.

And either way it’s the first EV that their dealerships have had to deal with. And I’ve been through enough “let them learn on my car.” I did like my Honda dealer quite a bit more than I like my Ford dealer (who is fine).

1: Yes.
2: Not sure I could be tempted into something else. If I were made to even consider the alternatives - never a Tesla, never a Volvo, never a Porsche, never anything Chinese.
3: Possibly they just don’t know how damned good these cars are?

1) Would you keep, lease/loan, or buy another Mach-E.
Absolutely would. It's fun, pretty, comfortable and believe it or not, affordable in the overall picture.

2) If you wanted to get out of the MACH-E into a different EV or ICE, give your reason to why
If I was to get into something else, I think I would get the Slate truck, it's different, affordable and customized to my specific needs. I already own a EV truck (24 F150 Lightning Flash), so it is not likely, but I will at least explore it down the road.

3) What is the biggest shortcoming or drawback that is keeping EV buyers from choosing the MACH-E
I think price, which is slowly getting lower. I also strongly believe that lack of education on EVs is the biggest problem. People rely on rumers, and what their cousins uncles neighbors mother said. It's a common belief that you have to charge full before driving, that the battery dies in 3 years or so, that charging in public cost more than gas, that the tires cost $400 each, that you cant's get them wet (seriously asked this alot!), they catch on fire, you can't charge inside your garage, etc, etc. Social media contributes to these via fear mongering, it's frustrating!

I have a first edition and will be trading it in on a Cadillac Lyric. After 4 years the balloon payment is due, and the interest rate is much higher than when I purchased it. The main issue is the ride and wind noise. The Lyriq has noise cancelling technology and is much bigger. I drove at MME GT and the dampening was better, but not up to the Cadillac.

Bottom line as an older guy, I'll treat my bones to a cushier ride. I really do like the MME with all its quirks which I have learned to laugh at.

I'm currently keeping my 2021 Premium Big Battery, but I'd be liar if I said I have not been looking at the GT (magna ride) from time to time and calculating the financials......As of last week, I'm now closer to 60 than 50 & would not mind the cushier ride.
  • 2) If you wanted to get out of the MACH-E into a different EV or ICE, give your reason to why
For the price point (and even though I bought the MME; I think I Lease the next EV) the Ionic 5 intrigues me. Being a kid of the 80's; it reminds me of a VW Golf (super sized) OR The Lyriq and just float down the ride. But no Frunk and No Apple Car Play?!?! No WAY!!!
  • 3) What is the biggest shortcoming or drawback that is keeping EV buyers from choosing the MACH-E
I'm not sure it is even the # of chagers as much as the time spent at the charger. I'm always trying to talk the wife into a EV but she just says I'm not spending 30-45min filling up. So, as soon as we start to get that 10-80% under 10 minutes then I believe we see a much larger adoption.

1) I have 21 job 1 premium. I really still love the car. I would consider buying, leasing another Mach E but so far not enough changes to make me do it. I have had very few problems with both the car a dealerships

2) When I buy another car I like to have something different enough to peak my interest. So far I have not seen that on the market. Style is important and many do not fit that bill. I also like the balance Ford has done with real stalks, buttons, etc... I could never buy a Tesla with its screen only approach. I charge at home almost exclusively and had never had to worry about faster charging. So when the right price and features along with cool style come along be it a Mach E or another EV I will consider it. So far in my opinion it doesn't exist.

3) Don't really know. Mach E 2021 had all the features I like.

I’m the original owner on a ‘21. It’s been rough (so many recalls), but things are easy now so no issues.
  1. Possibly. Which brings me to…
  2. See below
  3. I honestly have no idea. Is it well known that it exists? Slow charging would be my other guest but I don’t know how many people know that’s an issue that care about it
There were only two options when I bought mine: the Mach E and the ID.4. Didn’t want a Leaf, Bolt, or Tesla. These days there are a lot more choices but I don’t really know that much about many of them.

I know some lack features that I refuse to give up, like CarPlay. That alone would rule out Tesla, Rivian, and GM products.

I had Honda’s before and wouldn’t mind going back, but I don’t think they have an equivalent to what I want. I like having something sportier. And right now Honda doesn’t have an EV platform and I don’t think I’d want to get their first one. I’ve been through enough on the Mach E.

I do like my Mach E. It’s gained a heat pump (good), the much better shocks on premium (fantastic), and cooled seats right (woo!). On the other hand I liked my hands-free lift gate and don’t want to give that up, such an odd regression. I don’t care about the drunk.

I’m tired of “we invented worse door handles” from every EV.

My personal desires don’t exist in any one vehicle:
  • Smooth ride
  • Luxurious interior
  • Well designed controls
  • Good range (250 is fine, I could do less)
  • Fast charging (maybe <20m)
  • Ventilated seats
  • Strong AC (ours is ‘ok’)
  • Hands free trunk
  • Peppy/fast
  • Real leather
  • I’d be happy much smaller I think
  • Kinda miss having a sedan or hatchback as opposed to SUV
  • 360 overhead
  • CarPlay
  • A good price (IMO for what I’m getting)
  • Established EV program

There are very luxurious EVs, but they tend to be big. There are smaller ones but they’re not as peppy and tend to be cheaper on the interior.

Who wants a fast Mini sized EV with a luxury interior? Not enough people for it to exist, let alone at what I’d judge a reasonable cost.

I’ve never been in the Mini EV, but the round screen just seems like an instant “no” to me.

They stopped making the Fiat 500e right? That might be great, but as I get older I suspect I’d like a more luxurious interior than what I’m guessing they have.

I’m really really over the giant car trend. I’d be happy to go back to my Accord as an EV or something more civic sized too.

TLDR: nothing better happen to my car because I don’t have the slightest clue what I would do.
1) I have 21 job 1 premium. I really still love the car. I would consider buying, leasing another Mach E but so far not enough changes to make me do it. I have had very few problems with both the car a dealerships

That is EXACTLY how I feel too. That said, I would like my MME to at least be a practical alternative for long trips instead of always using my wife’s ICE Infiniti. For our particular level of patience, we need any EV we own to be able to charge from 10-80 in 20 minutes or less, and we don’t want to have to chase down specific chargers for this. When our lease is up in 2027, the next EV will be chosen considering this ability.

1) I wish to keep it for more than 10 years, but I am tired of the HVBJB issue. If Ford fixes that issue, I will keep it for sure 100%

2) I wish to keep it. I gave another chance, I have a 2022 GTPE, but it's been 2 times in the workshop in less than 6 months due to the most common issue and the only issue from my point of view that is important HVBJB Junction Box unfortunately Ford haven't spent time or money trying to fix that issue I been reading hours and days and weeks to try to find the solution. Still, it's not the solution to that issue yet, my only reason to trade my car is that I am tired of being in rental cars using gas when my Mach E is in the dealership doing the warranty of the HVBJB.
