Wow, some people will take any car when in a hurry!
Ford is too stupid to spend time to do a second pass QC so customers won't have to bring back their cars as often, even if it means losing a few customers like this.
Tesla has no such problem. It doesn't have a QC team. :) Just imagine someone standing up to Elon to stop delivery. He will be fired on the spot. Tesla can hand down anything to the customer. I guess it makes some feel happy that they have the car, at least on paper, as they make lease/loan payments. I have seen Model Y delivered with giant holes in the interior panels, not to mention misaligned body parts and bad paint jobs. But rush the car to a customers to count it as delivered? Guess no one can beat them on that one.

Just last Nov, Tesla sank near the bottom on reliability due to Model Y woes.
https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/19/tech/tesla-model-y-reliability-consumer-reports/index.html

And today, on insideevs, an article on the disappointing quality of $100k+ Model X cars. Poor quality runs deep in Tesla heritage.
https://insideevs.com/features/481947/tesla-quality-assessment-model-x-issues/

I'm still glad some impatient people are finding unsold inventory/customer reject cars at Tesla for a quick delivery. Wahtever makes one happy!

Don't forget the checklist though. It can save some pain. GOOD LUCK!

The day after the delay email, I test drove the Model Y. My wife and I really liked it.

...

I'll still lurk on this forum, as I look forward to reading about your experiences. Good luck to all of you. Stay safe and healthy.

Dave,

I'm glad you were able to find something that meets your family's needs AND is electric, too!

Fingers crossed that the Model Y delivery will go smoothly and that all is well.

Thanks for spending time with us here, and for sticking around for awhile longer.

I guess it makes some people feel happy and important to put others down or degrade their purchasing choice. That's fine....if it makes you sleep better at night, keep at it.

- "In a Hurry" : I guess if waiting over a year for a car, being hit with multiple delays (yes, I've heard about COVID), and not being told anything from a dealer puts me in the "I'm in a hurry" category, fine.
- "Model Y Delivered With Giant Holes": I'm well aware of the fit & finish issues around the Model Y. It was one of the main reasons I didn't get one to start with. I've read reviews from and talked with many RECENT owners who've said the quality has increased. Perfect? Likely not. I'm okay with thoroughly checking the car over and having Tesla address whatever issues are present.
- "Unsold/Inventory": I ordered the car on Jan 17th, and it's not being delivered until next week. The VIN doesn't represent a previously-sold vehicle, so......

I would never try to make someone feel bad about their vehicle purchase, just to make myself feel better. I guess that's the kind of person you are. Be well.

I hope it is perfect for you dave. Good talking here with you. I agree with your post get what is best for ya. The poster above calling out the problems with tesla " which I do myself" is not what matters here. what matters is each one of us getting what we feel was best for us.

Some people can't wait because of lease issues or other reasons. Dave didn't say tesla didn't have flaws or delays before, he knows tesla has massive problems. He made the choice here and now and the mache is not here now. Why I hope the model y is awesome for you.

Thank you so much Tru! I'll say it again, I've really appreciated your insight and knowledge throughout this entire process. If it wasn't for you and a few others, I would have lost my mind and bailed a very long time ago. I look forward to reading about your experiences once you get the Mach-E. Thanks again! - Dave

Fellow Forum Members: It's unfortunate that it had to be this way, but I have made the decision to CANCEL my Mach-E order. It was a combination of things really, but the final straw was this latest delay, coupled with the complete lack of professionalism and communication from my dealer. I know it doesn't matter to him. The dealership will still get the car, and be able to sell it higher than MSRP. To be honest, I wish there was a way I could cancel with Ford and not the dealer. That way, they wouldn't be able to sell it.

The day after the delay email, I test drove the Model Y. My wife and I really liked it. Were there things we liked about the Mach-E that we wish were in the Tesla? Yes. Ultimately, there were enough features that really sold us. We went for the Long Range Dual Motor. In the end, we're happy with our decision, and excited for our first electric vehicle. It will be delivered in 1 week.
I really enjoyed interacting with everyone as we learned about this car together. I regret that we couldn't finish the journey together, but I just had enough. I felt like all of this wait, drama, lack of communication, etc. simply wasn't worth it anymore. I actually became DISINTERESTED in the car.

I'll still lurk on this forum, as I look forward to reading about your experiences. Good luck to all of you. Stay safe and healthy.

Dave,

Congratulations on the choice and very happy you are going electric, even if not a Ford like this group is.

Welcome to the Tesla family, I have enjoyed my Model 3 over the past 2.5 years, they are really fun to drive. If you have not already, join one the the Tesla forums (Tesla Motors Club is a good one). Ignore the few trolls and the Tesla fanboys (especially the self appointed troll police), there is a lot of good information discussed there about the cars, the software updates, and the supercharger network. I suggest you buy a good USB stick (one rated for high writes) or SSD drive and use the TeslaCam / Sentry Mode feature. Before your first road trip, validate your car communicates and charges on a close by Supercharger, it should be no issue but peace of mind when you do go on a road trip.

Please keep us informed on how your ownership experience is with the Model Y, both the good and the bad.

Possibly , my order was scheduled for production 12/11, built 1/4 and originally was supposed to be delivered 1/28. Now 3/25. I am hoping the date would switch in the next couple days top something sooner but at this point what is another 2 months. :)
Good news in NorCal. I had the exact same production/build/ETA/Revised ETA dates. 12/11, 1/4, 1/28, and moved to 3/26. NEW ETA AS OF TONIGHT is 2/16. Getting excited again for our premium-ER arriving in Livermore with the delay cut to just 3 weeks now

Do hope it works out well for you. No reason it shouldn't. And welcome to the BEV club!

Don't take the negative responses to heart. I've always found posts explaining why someone has decided to buy a competitive product terminally annoying. Yours was not that type of post at all, but it could be interpreted that way.

Hopefully no worries and enjoy your new ride!

Congratulations. Not long now. If it makes you feel better mine was built almost a month before yours but is only scheduled to be delivered a couple of weeks sooner. You closed the gap.

Hopefully no more delays!

PS: Love the Avatar. Are you planning to run for the Senate?

Likewise, please come back and pay us a visit and let us know how your first days/weeks with the car go. Hopefully you'll be able to test drive a Mach-E for comparison. :)

Still waiting to test drive one before placing an order, so I have been keeping track of FCTP orders of my area dealers. Some of them have made their way to the Norfolk Southern Voltz Yard last week, now their ETA are either 2/19/2021 or 2/20/2021, only 5-10 days behind the original estimates, and far better than the 3/30/2021 estimate right after the QC delay was announced.

Enjoy the Y. I hope your car does not suffer from the fit and finish issues mine did (which I walked away from). We're after Tesla crunch time so hopefully you won't have any issues. I loved the car but ironically experience with Tesla is what drove me to the MachE. I do hope Ford learns from the MachE rollout issues, especially on the dealer side.
