Congrats! I'm on the western edge of IL - you car probably went right past me on its way from KC. I'm on the same direct highway from KC so I hope I have the same short delivery.

One question about your license plate - It's my understanding that in Illinois we have special EV-plates ($100 surcharge because they don't collect motor fuel taxes from us) and vanity plates are not available. It looks like you got a vanity plate - very cool. Anything you can tell me about how that came about??? I wonder if the dealer didn't know what they were doing and gave you a standard vanity plate instead of an EV plate?

Edit: I just noticed the 4/21 sticker date. It looks like you transferred an existing vanity plate. Maybe that's a loophole that will allow us to get vanity plates on an EV. My car is due week of Feb-6 so it's too late for me to try.
We did some research on this! When the EL plates came out they were at a big discount, but as you mentioned that has changed and they are now the same price. The EV plates have always been optional just like all of the other types of specialty plates. You don’t have to have them but if you want them, you have to prove it is an EV. I think most went with the specialty plates for the savings but that will probably be changing. I don’t think it is too late. You should be able to apply for vanity plates with the dealer or go to the IL Sec. of State pick a plate site. Would love to catch up sometime! I will private message my contact info.

Good info, thanks!
I'll try to order vanity plates when I pick my car up and see what happens.

Just out of curiosity, did you get charged the $100 EV fee plus plate transfer fee while at the dealer?
That is how it worked with me in MI but our fee is $140. I will then be charged another fee when my plates are due for renewal (Sept). But for you, I would expect you will be paying another annual EV fee in April? Kind of stinks that there is no prorated fee.

Enjoy the new ride, I know I have!

That's a good point. The time between now and renewal should be prorated, then the full fee for the first full year.

Yeah this will be interesting: Just a couple of weeks ago I renewed my plates on the Bolt. Since its already an EV I should just have to pay to get the plate transferred and not any additional EV upcharges since I've already paid them (Michigan).

There is an EA charging station at the Walmart on the south end of town. We went there last night and used it just to get an idea of how this all works and didn’t have any issues. I hope that helps!
Thanks for the update on your local charging station and discussion about vanity plates. Good to see quite a few folks posting from IL, especially those in the Chicago area.

I took my daughter, who is almost as excited about the car as me, to the back of the Fair Oaks Ford dealership in Naperville to see the Grabber Blue one I discovered yesterday. She loves it!

I'm not sure why they're hiding it back there. They put the Bronco Sports out front as soon as they came in, but they're not showcasing the MME at all. Even if it is a customer car, which is subject to debate, they should still have it on display to gin up interest and some orders.

Interesting. They have three GB FE's listed. Two with names attached. One GB FE doesn't have a name attached to the reservation, but neither does mine. They have 15 listed in inventory and most have $5k - $10k ADM, but the one GB FE does not.

Wow, I called Fair Oaks yesterday and they told me they didn't have a mach onsite. Did you notice the wheel locks?

I may take a trip to Fair Oaks next week to look at the Mache. Maybe ask if I can sit in the car.

There is another one at the Landmark dealership in Springfield that they are using for test drives and a loaner

The paperwork only showed the transfer fee. Admittedly, the guy doing to loan paperwork is new and Ford as a whole is not familiar with EV plates. I am an ask for forgiveness and not permission sort of a person, so I will just wait and see what comes of it. I reserved these plates last year and titled them to a junker to hold them until the car came in, hence the 4/21 renewal sticker. So they are just being transferred to the MachE.
