I haven’t been able to find anything on this, so I suspect I know what the answer is, but just in case… is there any way to disable the touchscreen temporarily while you’re driving?

My scenario is this: I’m fostering a guide dog puppy (raising her until she’s about 2 years old) and one of the rules (their rules, not mine) is that she’s not allowed on the car seats so she curls up on the floor of the front passenger seat. While I’m driving, though, she’ll put her chin on the center console and she’s always changing setting on the touchscreen with her ears 😀 The other day I was navigating to somewhere I’d never been, and suddenly she’d activated something and the car was asking if I was the passenger before it would enable whatever it was it was enabling.

Ok… cutest problem ever.

I guess Calm Screen wouldn’t work, huh? Did you try it?

maybe someone here could print you a screen blocker?

Not an expert on pets in vehicles, but shouldn't they be in the back seat and restrained?

The calm screen might help if I’m not navigating somewhere; I’ll give that a try. It might minimize things like heat suddenly being set to max on me 😀

Probably have to put some type of clear plastic shield that would block touches from being activated.

She can still cause you severe injuries in an accident and die in the process. For your own safety and for hers, I would get her a harness, a seat belt and secure her to the rear bench. The seat belt secures to either a LATCH anchor or a seat belt buckle.

This is what I use, but there are many others on the market:

She needs to be on the floor; the guide dog organization’s rules, not mine
My mom has very low vision and has a guide from GDB.

@aschan is correct. When riding in road vehicles and in airplanes, the dogs are trained to lay down (curled into a ball as they get too big) in front of and on top of the handler's feet.

Thank you very much for volunteering as a puppy raiser! You are enabling blind and low vision people to be more confident and capable in their mobility. And the dog companionship is a big deal for them, too. Puppy raisers are in critically short supply. Lack of enough raisers is the main thing limiting availability of guide dogs.

Thanks, @macchiaz-o; comments like yours are why I do this!

As you said, these puppies are being prepared for a specific role in life, and thus GDC has crafted many rules & procedures for the puppy raisers in support of that goal. I've owned many dogs, and this is the first time I've raised one that comes with a 30 page manual, and a multi-page agreement to sign. The way I look at it, when it comes to the guide puppy raising, there's a right way to do it, a wrong way, and the Guide Dogs of Canada way; I go with their way, as they've been doing this for decades, and I'm not qualified to second-guess them 😊
