My guess it was a rogue charger set up by crooks to steal electricity ?
I do feel like it is likely a charger issue however she had issues at multiple chargers until finding a successful one.

What user error could cause battery discharge? o_O
Battery is dead and car wasn’t charged?

Same way people run out of gas- user error.

Not an accusation, just saying it’s one of the possibilities.

OP is assuming battery was discharged somehow at a charger based on readings on the FordPass App. The same FordPass app that occasionally tells me I got 30 miles/kWh. ?

Just saying it’s possible his wife just ran the battery down and the charger also wasn’t working (lots of chargers are broken). It isn’t necessarily a broken vehicle.

But again, we won’t know until he goes to the dealer service center to find out.

The good news is as others have posted, a tow to a charger is covered if you “run out of electrons.”

She takes it on trips all the time. She is an engineer who uses the product all the time and is her daily driver.
Simply made a post has anyone had this happen. Never went to a gas station and lost my gas or had my gauge read different. brave new electric world.

To answer the question Maybe... And maybe you are the guy at Ford who deleted the events in Ford pass showing a fault every five minutes until she unplugged it.

Not an accusation, just saying it’s one of the possibilities.

And the answer is “no,” no one else here has ever posted about anything like this happening.

But we have had people with battery issues and people with charger issues and people with inaccurate data on the FordPass app.

Not saying the discharge thing is impossible (maybe you’re the first?), but it does seem like a less likely assumption.

And yet, it’s the title of your thread!

Based on how you’re reacting to people who are trying to offer suggestions and solutions, I’m not surprised you’re attacking Ford as well.

Unfortunately, Ford is the only one who will figure this out and possibly fix this for you.

Would you mind identifying the specific EVgo charger involved?

I have not heard of a DC fast charger discharging a battery before, but I suppose it could be possible since it has direct access to the battery. The contactor should be able to open to stop the flow if there was a fault, unless the discharge current was too high to safely break. If there was a short something would have gotten really hot and melted. The energy had to go somewhere. I would also contact EVgo about this as well, they likely have charge logs as well.

Interested in the outcome of this for technical reasons.

Well I guess if there is a way for a charger to discharge a Mach then I can’t wait for the Mach to join the Lightning as a back up power supply for home. I am interested to see how this plays out.

The driver's on a business trip on the way back

Provide some level of reasonable support by phone not just respond to third-party forums like this

When you can't even call the Ford dealer during business hours for support locally and have them answer the phone makes it difficult.

Having Ford roadside assistance only being able to drive you to a closed floor dealership versus taking you to a charging station.

Not erase my logs in FordPass

I fully expect that it will need service and I actually think it was likely a problem with the charger but with no customer service it is often something it has to be forensically figured out.

All of these are learnings for all of us. I recognize that I'm a beta guinea pig with a product that very few people have been trained on. Ford's transparency has not been adding to any level of credibility despite the fact that I love the vehicle.

Other times when I've tried to get the vehicle in for service it is between 3 weeks and 6 weeks. I will work to arrange service when the vehicle was returned but is actively in use and there is not a substitute.
I’m sorry your wife experienced this, but I gotta agree with Mach1E, what ‘support’ could Ford provide over the phone in this situation? Maybe if it was something like a Sync error, it would be nice if they could explain to people how to reset that system, but pretty much any issue, especially a potentially big deal issue since the hi-voltage battery is involved, you are going to need to bring it in.

Like telling a doctor’s office you are experiencing some chest pain that you are a bit concerned about, but no, you really can’t come in today and just want to talk to the doctor on the phone for a few minutes and why won’t they just do it.
