Georgia has an Alternative Fuel plate that BEV qualify to get if the owners want but so does a Suburban that can run on E85. There are several alternative fuel qualifiers.

The plate costs an extra $80 each year. For that you can ride in the I-85 and I-75 HOV lanes with a single occupant. You can also ride in the I-85 HOT lanes which can be a huge cost savings. Back when I was having to drive into Buckhead for work the lane saved me an average of $15 in the morning, $15 in the evening, and 50 minutes off my round trip commute.

I wish we could get special EV plates in California. However, the caveat would be that I would want a law passed that if you put an ICE vehicle in a EV spot it can be towed or fined. I hate more rules but if everyone follows them then you do not need them. Of course, CA would charge more for the EV plate, even though it probably cost the same to make as other plates. Got to make more money on anything new.

Gas taxes pay for road maintenance. Thatā€™s why registeration fees and other fees are higher for electric vehicles. Theyā€™re usually heavier and donā€™t buy gas. Hawaii is in the process of changing its registration system to a use fee. Each annual inspection notes your mileage. The proposal is to use that information and set a portion of the registration fees to use calculated with the weight of the vehicle. I was part of a year long pilot program last year. Had a GPS tracker in my Tacoma. The fees for that vehicle would have been significantly lower. The proposal would also eliminate the states portion of the gas tax (but not our sales tax on gas).

Did you actually put the decal on your car? I think it's ugly and don't see a point... I'm curious if I can just keep it with the registration. If it was a small sticker, I wouldn't mind, but I don think it's obnoxiously large (bigger than a post it note).
Yeah of course I did, I don't need to get rando stopped by some cop that hates EVs. Plus they appear to change the color every year too so cops know when to stop you without bothering to pull up your info. Cost is supposed to go up with the recent fuel tax hikes too. It's not too bad, you get used to it but still kinda feels like a joke. Given the state the nonsense with solar farms annoying people somehow, wind farms somehow worse than pipelines, and the excessive coal use I'm surprised they haven't just tried to ban EVs entirely....oh wait they already tried that once https://fox2now.com/news/missouri-considers-tesla-sales-ban/

I already showed this in another thread but Illinois mandates all electric vehicles to have this plate which costs $100 more then other plates to renew. There is talk that perhaps the law will be changed so that in 2022 you'll able to have vanity and personalized plates.

No EV plate here yet in British Columbia, Canada. But they do want you to post this hideous sticker on your fresh paint, to have the privilege of driving solo in the HOV lane. Hopefully we follow our Quebec brethren, and get some cool plates.

I put it on when I saw the fine was $500! And I hate it every time I see it. Iā€™m trying to get a front plate bracket now, since my car was delivered to Michigan, it didnā€™t get one. I donā€™t want the cops all up in my business either. Not worth the hassleā€¦

In Ohio the State Legislature is beholding to the gas and oil lobbies. An ICE vehicle pays a registration fee of $65. Electric vehicles get special treatment, a registration fee of $200. If you want a vanity plate it's another $65. All thanks to the Ohio legislature.
