When I went in to my local dealership in socal for the recall, I was told to wait for it if it wasn't urgent. Apparently they did it for two cars before and it didn't turned out well. The extra thermal paste got in on the interior and damaged or messed up the look. They also said they don't give a new glass unless the original glass got damaged during the process.
Your dealership is incompetent.

There is no "thermal paste".

This is a SAFETY RECALL. You should not wait.

Final update: picked up my car Saturday morning. They didn’t break the windshield (and I can tell because there’s still some adhesive from the old safety inspection sticker ?) Headliner and interior trim are all back in place properly. Car was washed and vacuumed for me. There’s a $0 line item about BlueCruise updates which I didn’t probe carefully. When I booked the appointment, I asked them to do 21G01 but by the time I went in, I was at PowerUp 2.5.3. I’ll ask a kind person to take a quick check at my VIN to make sure I’m not missing anything.
Overall, a good experience (and $29 for a quarter tank of gas in an explorer? ?)

Yeah, I had mine done without breaking windshield. There is a video out there that shows the right way to remove the windshield. They do need to remove the headliner for pano work. My glass company didn't like the way the pano was originally installed with the gaps so they redid it. Much better and totally eliminated my wind noise issue
Agree, car is quieter since the recall work was done.

Some early cars needed a windshield replacement due to the heater wiring quality issue, per instructions.

My service agent asked me the technical specs of the part when booking the work so they could order the part if needed. In my case it was.

The pano was simply prepping the metal parts and injecting adhesive to the seam between the glass and body.

Edit - I see you might have mis-explained. Got it. ;)

I didn't know that "Service Guy" was the same as Service Manager and not Service Writer or Service Advisor. Given this information, I would be changing dealerships.

I'm sure his first statement about inventory is correct, but the 2nd and 3rd statement are scary.
  • They’ve had a very high breakage rate on the windshields. He explained that the windshield is a structural part of the car, and under tension.
This shows they are not a competent dealership. Removal of the windshield should break maybe 2 out of 100, and those may have had cracks or chips in them already.
  • The panoramic roof has to be removed to replace the windshield.
This is a false statement. The WINDSHIELD has to be removed to remove the HEADLINER from the vehicle. If a dealership removes the panoramic roof to replace the windshield, they are incompentent.
Windshield does not need to be removed for the headliner removal, it can be removed from the hatch. It would be easier because the headliner has to be removed.

I had my windshield replaced because of rock chip, no metion of having to do anything to the pano roof or that it was a difficult windshield replacement. All went smoothly.....Except the first windshield the glass company got from ford was damaged, so i had to wait an extra day for a replacement. Also the installer said it was thinner than most windshields. So I dont see how that could be "Structural", maybe i'm just a lucky mach-e owner.

What's the "headliner" that people keep referring to. Where exactly is it?

It’s the whole of the one peace headlining which has to be removed for the panorama glass recall the best dealers tend to have windscreen specialist replace the screen. BUT have their own dealer techs remove the headlining first as it makes it easier for the screen replacement plus there is less chance of headlining being damaged I believe the Ford Tech then adds the extra sealant/adhesive to the pano roof then refits the headlining, all being well there should be no problems using the combine skills of the windscreen specialist and Ford Technicians ?

May I ask what kind of "wind noise" did you have? Could you hear inside the car? I have what I call "wind noise", but it is when my husband and I are on the phone with each other. Sometimes it sounds like he is in a massive wind or rain storm and other times it sounds like a waterfall. We even updated my cell phone, thinking it may have been that, but it wasn't. We need to get it in to a dealer to have it checked, but we hate the fact they may take the car apart to try and figure it out, then somehow mess it up.

The headliner is the piece of upholstery that lines the ceiling. ??

It sounds like a window is not fully closed once you get above 45 mph

Mine sounds exactly like this too. With my ear close to the side mirror area is surely sounds like air is getting in somehow. Visually from the outside it looks fine.

yeah, the glass company didn't like the way it was installed at the factory with the excessive gap on passenger side so it was completely removed and reinstalled. Looks perfect now and quiet
