I think $2750 seemed high as well, but I have little experience here and not much to compare it to. The screen (big and little), the hands-free assist monitor, and all other integrated electrics are my biggest concern.

Agree. It's a crapshoot. That high price tells me that they must have a concern about something. I am going to email my dealer and ask what they would charge.

Yes, there are several. The last time I purchased a Ford extended warranty, I purchased it online through Flood Ford. It was a lot cheaper than what my local dealer tried to charge me.

Thanks for that info - I sent a message to the Flood Ford ESP folks and got a response back within 30 minutes. Mentioned that rates should be available for the Mach-E "in the coming weeks".

Yeah, I haven't seen any final numbers for the MME yet. The good news is that you can add the extended warranty any time in the first year for the same price, so you don't have to do it the day you get the car.

Shop around for factory warranty pricing from different dealers. The extended warranty is the same thing nationwide so any dealer can sell it to you for whatever price they want. Only thing that is different is the guy in the F&I office at your local dealer thinks you don't know that.

That seems ridiculously expensive to me. On the many vehicles I've owned, I've purchased two extended warranties. The latest one was on a fully loaded SUV, and that cost me about $1200. These warranties are a game. You go in there, and you politely but firmly refuse. They'll keep lowering the price, and keep trying to convince you to buy it ("What if we lowered it to $2500" ... etc.). Each time, politely but firmly (and with a smile on your face) and immediately say "No thank you". Be sure it comes across in your body language that you have no intention of purchasing a warranty. When they finally give up and move on, take the last price they offered, chop off a couple hundred from it, and offer that. I've only done it twice, but it's worked like a charm both times. With the Honda above, they also threw in tinted windows in that price as well. One last piece of advice, there are always multiple "levels" of warranty (usually 5 - 6). Never go for any level other than the top level. Again, with the quote above, that was the highest level.

In summary, I got the highest level of warranty, with free tint on an SUV, for about $1,200 USD. I can't remember the starting price, but it was close to $3k when they began shoving it down my throat. You have to be careful of what you read on the internet, but the various research I've done seems to indicate it costs dealers about $300 - $500 dollars for these warranties, so imagine if they sucker you into paying $2750 the profit they are making.

I purchased Ford's top warranty, PremiumCare, with a $0 deductible, for my Ford Fusion.

It did cover some of my out of warranty repairs, but it didn't pay for itself. I think I paid about $1,800 for 7 years 100k miles $0 deductible. As others said, this is highly negotiable.

Anyway, I don't recommend it. I've had a lot of repairs to be done on the Fiesta but I think I would have just barely broken even over the last 7+ years.

Also, be aware that PremiumCare, like most warranties, does not include *everything*. It is not a bumper to bumper warranty.

Only failed PARTS are covered (and the labor to replace them). So if it is a noise, vibration, or harshness issue, it's generally not covered.

TRIM is excluded. Many of the parts that you can see when sitting in your car are considered trim. When my Fusion's interior door handle snapped into two pieces, it was not covered. The door handle is trim because you touch it.

Stuff like that frustrates me to no end. So unless the warranty is somehow just free, I'm not likely to buy it.

Yup - My last extended warranty was on the Ford edge 2010 model - barely needed it over the 7 years or 100K miles it covered. Most of my car issues (not that many to be honest) occurred after 100K miles (which happened to be earlier than 7 years) and not covered anyway. The cars I purchased after that I have waited for the 3yr/36K warranty time to almost run out before making a decision on extended warranty.

The plan most interesting to me were the Electric Premium Maintenance Plan which I think covers Multi-point inspections, tire rotations, wiper blades, washer fluid top off, cabin air filter replacement, brake pads/linings and shock absorbers/struts.

There are many more plans like PremiumCARE, ExtraCARE, BaseCARE, LeaseCARE, TireCARE, WindshieldCARE, TripleCARE and many more. Though most of the parts covered are ICE engine and powertrain parts which are not applicable to the Mach-E, but there are other general car parts and high tech parts that could be covered too.

It would great if Ford offered an EV plan, especially as they bring more to market. I'm going to talk to my dealer about this soon.

In my C-max i just decided to wait to see how the car was. if it was flakey, I would have purchased it. But since it wasn't I never did.

By talking to the dealer about a service plan you're going down a bad consumer path. As others have noted, an extended service plan is just like any other product -- it's an insurance product but still a product. So two important points:

1. Get quotes from several dealers. Any Ford dealer can sell the plan and some specialize in selling more plans at lower margins. I think someone mentioned Flood (never used them). It's not any different than buying a Ford Connect charger or floor mats, though I think you'll find the price differences to be significant.

2. Don't get the plan when you get the car. The plan starts when you buy it, which means a three year plan has zero value. You do want to get it before you hit some milestones -- usually 3 years and 36K miles aka the regular warranty limits -- but no point in getting it before then. An additional advantage of waiting is that you'll get a better sense of how many miles you drive the car which can help guide you as to which plan you want.

I wouldn't worry too much about whether the plan will "pay for itself". It's an insurance product so in most cases it shouldn't. What it should do is protect you if you have the abnormal case where a lot of expensive things go wrong. But remember that the drivetrain is covered by the drive train warranty.
