1) Part of the agreement is that they would basically give over everything software wise to the new company. Everything. 2) There's the problem. There is multiple articles that claimed there are NO SPARE PARTS.

I wish I can learn how this company plans to make this work. Just once accident can render an Ocean totaled. I mean, I doubt their entire fleet will be destroyed overnight, but to think that anything more than a fender bender means the car is no more.
Yep it would be a foolish purchase for a consumer.

Who knows what the buyer of Fisker's IP and software has planned - maybe Henrik secretly bought it himself to relaunch the company now that he's paid for (and written off) all the development work ?.

It's clear that Fisker doesn't give a ? about the unfortunate people who bought one early on. I suppose those early adopters could buy a $14k parts car?

Now, they are both keeping them in the garage and hoping they will appreciate in value as time goes on.
Unlike an ICE car that can be stored for decades, the lithium battery will eventually become unable to safely hold a charge. And forget about repair or replacement on a defunct proprietary battery. It’s heavier and more dangerous than working on an IC engine.
These things will be going to scrap recyclers to harvest the battery elements as that is where the only value remains in them.

According to what I’ve read in the news, there are almost no spare parts available, and the software toolkit necessary to diagnose and treat any software problems isn’t available.
Basically, if you ever have a problem you won’t be able to fix it.
May I suggest something like the Honda Insight? Civic exterior, Accord interior, autopilot (touring trim) and 50mpg. Not zero emission, but close enough.
The Insight was the car I traded in to get my MME. What a great vehicle. If not for pandemic used car price inflation, I would have still been driving it. The Insight has been replaced with the new Civic Hybrid (which is really what the Insight was anyway). Great recommendation.

Agree. She’s moving towards a RAV4 Limited and maybe the Venza
Fisker won’t honor warranties and has no obligation for repairs or updates, but will provide software updates.
I am going to do some secret shopping at a local dealership take all these suggestions and see what they say. I’m concerned with software parts and warranty for sure
Fisher won't be doing software updates if it doesn't exist...
To buy one, if you can afford to own a brick, is fine, if you like risk. To have your mother buy one is probably the worst decision you could ever make.

It's possible that the Fisker Ocean may be rebadged and produced for another car company. If this happens, parts and service may be available from the new company.

The Ocean development costs have largely been paid for and there is signigicant value in Fisker intellectual property. I may take a chance based on this assumption.

If it doesn't happen, the Ocean can be "parted out" (disassembled) and may be worth more than my purchase price.
Oh, no, Joe, don’t jump in the Ocean, give me your hand and step back, let’s head up to boardwalk and get some Thrasher’s Fries while you … just say no to the Ocean… ?

Isn't everything licensed from Magna except for the buggy software? My understanding is Magna already makes a Chinese vehicle on the ~same chassis.

I am not sure of who owns the vehicle hardware IP. It's good if it's Magna - it may help to continue the platform. What do you think, would an existing automaker who is weak in EVs carry on with the Fisker hardware and highly reworked (or new) software?

It's funny, I have 2 co-workers who waited years with reservations for their Fiskers and when they got it, they got the bad fiscal news of recent....

Now, they are both keeping them in the garage and hoping they will appreciate in value as time goes on.

I'd only get one to play with - never to rely on and certainly not to invest...
lol! they are hoping they APPRECIATE in value?????just....wow...

My mum is thinking about adding an inexpensive second vehicle. We looked at a 2023 Fisker Ocean One. Nicely equipped rides nice etc. only 3300 miles and asking $22K.

My biggest concern is their bankruptcy if they file chapter 7 and or bought out my concern are updates and maintenance. I told
My mum not worth the risk for the vehicle becoming a brick.

Any thoughts?
Yeah do not risk it. If the company went under, but there was extensive third party support, that would be one thing. But from my limited understanding, the company that produced parts and cars for Fisker never planned on making a surplus of parts. This is a very common practice at larger OEMs, making more parts than finished cars to account for mechanical repairs, and accident repairs. Apparently Fisker didn't see the need, they thought they could create a car that didn't need to be serviced really. Peak idiocy on their part there.

So not only is the company done, you can't find parts for them. Any issue the car has stays an issue because it can't be fixed. The story of Fisker is really depressing, but somewhat inspiring. It's like when you see a bad movie, and say "I'm not great, but I could make something better than that". That's basically how Fisker feels to me as someone who wants to be a car designer.

Magna isn't gonna produced any future oceans, and by extension anything using fisker's platform I would assume. They're basically cutting ties with Fisker.

Agreed. As I understand it Magna’s financial disclosures say or infer the same thing and indicate the Fisker revenue stream has dried up. One should not count on Magna as a financial white knight, and they certainly won’t patch these cars together as a pro bono gesture. That’s also putting aside who does or doesn’t own any patent or intellectual property rights to any bits of the vehicles. You can kiss this auto building venture goodbye.

I understand Fisker is look to get approval after bankruptcy to sell off the remaining units built for $14K. That could significantly impact value of existing vehicles already sold.

The right-to-repair movement or the options to part out for projects could make this an interesting purchase if you could get your hands on one at the $14,000 price.

Edit: Removed details already reported upthread.
