isn't this just a function of wireless charging? It is an inefficient form of charging.

As someone else said on here, and I agree with. For short drives I use wireless CarPlay and only put it on the charge side if it needs it. For longer drives, I used the USB plug for CarPlay and then charge via that form.

Along with this, most of the things people complain about on this form are easily resolved but perhaps just not the way they want it to be resolved.
Yes and no.

Some wireless chargers are more prone to cooking your phone than others.
I have quite a few wireless chargers (including magsafe) and they don't cook my phone to the point that the phone goes into overheat mode. Ford's charger does cook the phone more than others. IMHO

Arrived on the good ship Amazon today.

Stuck one in place, don’t look too bad - see attached piccy.

My ‘phone, an iPhone 14 ProMax, was fully charged so put wifey’s iPhone 11 on the mat and in about 30 mins driving had charged from 62% to 78% and was fairly warm.

That’s more than mine has ever charged without this charge ring - only ever barely held its charge and got so hot until IOS shut down ‘phone to cool down!

Be interesting to test mine on there.

Anybody reckon I’d be able to stick a second ring on top of first?

One is not quite as thick as the camera surround on the genuine Apple case so a second may bring level high enough to either meet the ‘phone or become closer to it.

Ford are performing my updates next week and so I will test this after then as one is for wireless charging performance. I am surprised that this makes much difference with the charging mat that you have. I have the same mat and an iPhone 13 Pro Max in an otter box commuter case (MagSafe compatible). What I notice with this set up is that the phone only just fits in the raised guides and so does not move around, and still the wireless charging is intermittent. Can I ask if your success was with a similar sized phone, and if you have a similarly thick (while MagSafe compatible) case? If it does need to be fixed at a set location and this works for a smaller phone, then the guides may need to be revived / the pad replaced with the the big triangle wedge divider at the bottom to allow a different alignment of the coils.

Hey everyone,

I’m aware that there are solutions to fix the wireless charging issue on our Mach-Es ranging from 3D print holders with a magsafe charger to fully built TWARPS

While the solutions, like TWARPS, were quite expensive, costing around $100 or too specifically custom that could be not as easy.

However, I’ve come up with a more affordable and pretty easy solution for $10 (2 magnet sets for $10). Simply attach the magsafe magnets to the rubber mat, and voila! The wireless charging issue is resolved.

Amazon Links:
2- Piece Set: https://a.co/d/ihT6FA0
3-Piece Set: https://a.co/d/52yX9fF

Here’s how it turned out for me! I had some plastic holders from a different MagSafe magnets set that I used to make it look aesthetically pleasing, but it’s completely unnecessary, if you don’t wanna do it.

I like it.
Aesthetics are important ;). Where can we find the plastic holders?

It was off another cheap set of magsafe magnets that go on the phone cases

Peel off the magnets from this and stick the ones from the original links.

The magnets have a polarity. One side sticks really snugly to the phone, while the other side has a slight mismatch and moves a little away. You can feel which side is which when trying to stick the magnets to the phone. These magnets are designed for cases (not for chargers) and cannot be used directly on the mat.

i guess @ChuckUK also used these ones for case directly, might be wrong.

Well, I tried with one of those rings and my 14 ProMax doesn’t stay on charge or even charge 1%.

Tried it with two rings, one stuck on top of the other, still useless.

The 14 ProMax is slightly too large for the mat and considered cutting the guides from the mat for a better fit.

But I ask myself “can I really be arsed?”

Not sure I can so may just live with a shite wireless charger and plug in the occasional time in need a ‘phone charge when out on a longer road trip.

Sorry to be a wimp?

I am using 16 pro max (bigger than 14 pro max if i remember right) and still it works. Not sure why you are having an issue.

I wonder how much of this is just the case on the phone. I have a 2024 mme and a iPhone 15 pro with an ESR case. I slide it all the way up to the top as far as the case will allow and it charges without an issue.

Neither do I. It has a genuine Apple MagSafe case. Have given up on again it as I had done before these posts about the charge rings ??‍♂

So these bigger phones still have a spot where they charge, the issue is they move out of the way while driving.

This little sticker makes sure it sits in the same spot for the whole time (Reliable Contact)
The glue on these stickers are terrible?I give up

Got done with my setup.

I used these two:
XZC Mag Safe Case Magnet Sticker... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08Q7XWB85?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Magnet Ring Adhesive Compatible... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09T74CBQV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I gutted the ring (2nd link) and put the magnet sticker in it (1st link)
I shaved off the symbol on the mat and put some super glue on the ring before setting it on the mat and I let it sit with something heavy on it for a while.

It is so strong that it lifts the mat if I pull it straight up.

Here is a pic. The shaving wasn’t that clean, but doesn’t look as bad in person.

This showed up on my Amazon app.
I got something similar but it was solid and didn’t all charge through.

But this one should do the trick.
No surgery required.

The updates, including the wireless charging performance update were installed. I have tested the wireless charging on 2 x 40 min journeys without a single dropout. The phone was marginally warm at the end of each journey. This is with an iPhone 13 Pro Max in an Otterbox commuter MagSafe compatible case. Obviously no MagSafe is present in the charger, and I did not modify with the adhesive MagSafe locator rings. My phone does fit snugly in the charger with no possible movement due to the guides. As this is now working, I cannot see any benefit testing with the magnetic locator as I’m unlikely to see any improvement.

Thanks for sharing. I tried this one, and it didn't work for me. It is a little thicker than I would expect, and I got the initial charge indicator. I couldn't find placement that would keep the charge stable.
This was my first attempt to mod this issue. I can't seem to find stable placement anywhere without the magnet.

I'm using this one too (for my second iPhone)

The Spigen OneTap Pro. The cable is tucked away behind the SYNC screen. Holds IPhone Max with ease and you can still use you're phone hands-free.
