I have 30 amp service so I need a 24amp charger. How many amps does the Ford charger charge at. Any other dumb chargers that you could suggest would be helpful. I bought a Juice box 40 and you need an app to adjust the amps. No Wi-Fi in the garage.

Ford's mobile charger is 30-32A when plugged into a 240V outlet.

You'll need a charger rated for a 30A outlet, or change your wiring (via an electrician), or get an EVSE that can be limited with physical dials or switches such as the Grizzl-E or Ford's Connected Charge Station.

Use phone as a hot spot and program it that way maybe? (Unless you mean it needs Wi-Fi to operate.) I use a ChargePoint but many others report that you can adjust chargers to lower amp settings thru physical settings. Purchase one that allows for that or upgrade existing electrical.

30amp service ? you mean a 30-amp sub-panel in your garage?
240v, or just 120v ?

....you'll *probably* want to have an electrician pull bigger wire and upgrade the garage subpanel to 60amp-240v service.... with at least one 15amp 120v circuit, and one 50amp 240v circuit you can use for 'regular' L2 (32amp x 240v) charging.

30 amp breaker. That’s all they will allow and I am fine with that. So I can only do 24 amp charging.

So you need to purchase an EVSE that you can physically set at 24 amps. No go on the Ford unit except using at 120V.

Any suggestions for a dumb EVSE?

I have been charging for the last 3 hours and it hasn’t tripped the breaker.
Even though it has not tripped you are overloading the circuit - not safe! That is how fires start! There are threads on EVSE’s. I really think most are probably OK BUT I would only purchase a UL listed device myself.

There's a number of good ones. Many of us have the Grizzl-E. It's solid, and cheaper than most. To set it to 24A, gotta open the cover and set the dip switches per the owner's manual.

You're probably drawing right at 30A, barely enough to keep the breaker from popping. But as you noted, 24A is the most recommended on a 30A circuit (80% rule). That's especially true for a constant draw (many hours) vs just a short burst. 10 hours continous risks more heat and exposing weak spots in the circuit.

Just take the Juicebox somewhere with the proper outlet and WiFi to do the initial setup and set it to 24A.

I have T Mobile home internet and took that down to the garage. It wouldn’t work since it is only 5g. Smart chargers only work at 2.4 or so I was told.
