Ford vs Chevy Dealership Charging: Funny

Two guys driving a Bolt to the Arctic Circle are told by the Chevy dealership that they won’t be allowed to charge at the dealership’s charger. They go down the road to the Ford dealership, where not only do they charge, but out of pure pettiness, the film an impromptu commercial for a Ford Lightning.

@Ford Motor Company give this dealership a gold star because these could very well be converted to buyers! And show this bit to dealerships to show that keeping those charging stations readily available could drive good experiences and conversions to sales!

My local Ford dealership has a new building with the blue oval chargers out front, but they always have them blocked with ice cars so people can’t use them.

I recently took a day trip and needed to find a charger...there were several around. The first was a high capacity. Didn't work. There was a Ford dealership nearby, so I went there, asked a salesman where they were, he showed me and I hooked up. Didn't work. Tried the other one. Didn't work. Noted a message that indicated no current coming from it. Asked the salesman, who didn't know; he went to another desk. They couldn't have cared less. Guess you have to be a local customer. the silver lining was that the 3rd place I found was the (gasp!) Tesla charger, and it worked. The silver lining was that there was a good restaurant here, and while I didn't need it today, marked for future reference.

I use one dealership regularly and it’s been the OKist experience. But it’s a bit like a gas station without snacks or a 24 hour bathroom. So I always get fuel, which is my main objective (hooray!) but when the Ionna down the street opens at the Sheetz, I’ll go there (double hooray!)

As a protected class of businesses, dealers aren’t the most innovative or most ruggedly individualistic. So I’m not holding my breath, expecting a Ford dealership to find a new avenue for income through low stakes, high volume dwell time purchases, like a Sheetz or other convenience store with fueling.

Don’t get me wrong: I’m grateful for the ones who have the chargers, but they haven’t built incentive structures to welcome new income opportunities.

It made my day! Love to see how Ford Charge is bringing new charging to so many smaller towns and remote areas. Whitehorse definitely fits both of those criteria!

Now I just need to road trip up to Whitehorse myself...

I feel like dealers are a last resort charging locations. They are not ideal for charging. I’ve used them in three occasions in Indiana and Wisconsin because they were the only locations on my route. So I see why Ford was incentivizing dealers to add chargers. But I also would not use them if there are other options available.
