So don’t complain about the dealer to Ford. Tell them what your issue is and that you need them to give authorization to your local dealer to do the work to fix it. (And for the local dealer to get paid by Ford)
I’m surprised I haven’t seen the pop up by Ford yet asking you for your VIN and Dealer.
I understand the advice and appreciate it. I might see if the customer experience officers respond to a suggestion the issue a CSP over this, as that’s what it will likely take.

What hasn’t been said is that I did talk to Ford about a year ago regarding the glass recalls and this dealer. It had zero effect. So far the dealer has refused to do any glass recalls on any of the cars covered. Personnel issues. There is a serious post pandemic labor shortage here. Well, a shortage of labor willing to work for the offered wages anyway. The Ford dealer is not alone btw. The bigger of the two Jeep/Nissan dealers is far worse off. And the single Chevy dealer? Forget about it.

I’ll press the service manager and talk to the owner (friend of a friend type thing) to get it done if I can. Otherwise I live with it until I decide I want to afford the tools snd equipment to run FDRS myself. And honestly, I’ve been using the Frunk without a remote release for two years now so I can go a bit longer.

I would complain to Ford directly then. Tell them you have a Job 1 vehicle and that there is a known fix to enable the Frunk, but there's no TSB, SSM or CSP to address this. They will contact the dealer and give them the authorization that they need.
I spoke with a Ford rep today on the BEV team who said there's no such thing as an "authorization" from Ford for any missing features or update, it's just a matter of finding a dealer who knows and is willing to do it. I have a case open with the BEV team in Houston and they told me if the dealer won't do the module update, to have the dealer contact the agent and ask him/her to "contact your field service engineer or tech hotline to ask for a tech to help, or open up a technical assistance case for them to contact the field service engineer and explain how to perform the update". I'm going to start calling local dealership tomorrow to see if any 1) Known anything about what I'm talking about when I refer to the BCM and GFM modules and 2) will do the update.

There’s a problem with what you’re saying - unless a dealer has authorization to essentially “charge Ford” for that work, the dealer has to eat the technician’s time. And the FDRS and bay aren’t available for work the dealer could be recovering costs/making a profit on.

Just repeating what my Ford BEV team case person said ?‍♂. Either way I plan on calling around to every dealer tomorrow to see if I can reach someone who can/will do it

Many times over. :)

Oddly, the dealer doesn’t. Because they don’t do social media of any sort and barely have a web presence. Plus there are 5 infinite blue premium awd MMEs in my own little home town and 3 in the immediate area. Plausible deniability. :p

I personally have no particular problem with paying for module updates including this one, although honestly, Ford should cover the cost. What I have a problem with is the “It’s Ford’s responsibility to update modules,” mentality exhibited by a few dealers we’ve seen too often here.

Hey, if you can get Ford to open a case with the dealer and authorize the work, the dealer will do pretty much anything.

That’s pure gold! Well done.
I was doing that, but only sporadically. I don’t have the discipline to make it a habit!

Wow! 5 IBs all living together! I think I’ve only seen 2-3 other IBs since I got mine. I like having a “rare” color ?

I’ve often wondered why I can’t just pay a dealer to do the updates as well. Part of the problem would be the expense - from what I’ve read here, these updates take hours, and you know they’d bill you the tech labor for the entire time, even though he’s actually doing a brake job on a 2014 fiesta while your car is plugged into FDRS.
it’s really a shame so much expensive equipment is needed to do the updates.

A full 1/3 of the 2021s sold here were infinite blue. Of the first 10 delivered, 8 were infinite blue. The other two were rapid red and star white (dealer’s FCTP car). Overall, white is by far the most popular color for all cars in Hawaii.

Cuz it's hot. And rains daily. Few things as fun as burning your belly taking a surf board off the roof of a black car that's covered in water spots. :)
