The more I thought about this question, the less confident I was that I had a good answer. For me this was definitely an experiment. I bought the car to replace a totaled Mercedes E250 diesel, as a third vehicle for two drivers. Hard to overlook the irony of reading this thread while waiting in the MME for the tow truck to come and fetch the 2015 F-150 that stranded me at the supermarket last night. Starter crapped out.
I am of two minds. I think it should be more reliable as there are significantly less moving parts and tolerances. I also think it is likely to be less reliable as it is primarily a software driven device. Is that biased because I know less about that? Maybe. When I couldnāt get my truck to start I could easily figure out what was wrong with it, or at least narrow it down. If that happens with the MME I will have no clue.
Which one is more likely to strand me? I just donāt know. But based on infrastructure Iād say the MME, because I canāt just take it anywhere to get it fixed or charged. But thatās the infrastructure not the device.
