I got my Mach-e in 2022 November. I was out of town until Jan, and started using it since then.
In March I got 1 chip from a stone on freeway. I was worried about it and thinking that I should replace the windshield, but then, couple of days back on 2nd April, I got a crack again from a stone probably while driving in a similar fashion.

I have never experienced such a thing before in the previous car for 4 years, and this one got 2 chips in a month!! Anyone facing the same problem that windshield quality is so bad ?? Or am I so unlucky to get 2 chips in a month? Also, wouldany warranty or coverage help with this??

I went almost a year with no problems. Then one heavy snow and both my Mach and my Expedition windshields were cracked on the same day. DOT must have laid down some sizable gravel!

I too got hit with a flying rock on the freeway, then a couple months later another for a total of three chips/cracks. My car is currently in the shop getting the bumper redone and headlight replaced due to a chunk of tire that flew up on the freeway and hit my car as well.....first new car ever, most debri issues I've ever experienced as well.....total cost for bumper repair/repaint, reaplacement headlight and new windshield is about $5,000

Unclear to me if the paint and windshield materials are just cheaper, thinner or whatever, or just bad luck. But it stinks to finally pay this much for a new car (regardless of brand) and get these so quickly considering my years of driving without incident.

Thankfully my insurance covered all of this under a comprehensive claim for $100 deductible.

Good morning! Could you privately message us with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer so I can look into this windshield chip concern? Thank you!

The aerodynamics of the Mach-E certainly cause more stones to hit.

Many years ago I switched to zero deductible glass coverage, and it's worth it.

Most insurance companies will do free chip repair, but a crack over a certain size is non-repairable. When you get a chip, don't ignore it, call your insurance company ASAP.

With the glass roof of the Mach-E having a leading glass edge (vs. a normal sunroof), it's going to have more issues.

I'm always surprised when people think warranties cover stones hitting the vehicle.

The Dad in me is really struggling to not say "I thought there was a chips shortage" right here. Because that would be insensitive to getting a windshield crack/chip which we've all gone livid over after hearing that horrific sound of something hitting the windshield.

I have had my car about 1 year. I am about to replace the glass a second time. I currently have 8+ chips but one very large crack.

Either this car is shapped so they all hit the window or the glass quality is awful. My hood also has tons of rock damage.

All these happened from cars/trucks that weren't even near me. It'd discouraging.

I’ve had two window chips since I got the MME in 2021. I had zero chips in the 7 years prior with the previous vehicle. Like someone else said, it’s either the aerodynamics or the glass. Either way, I’ve gotten some practice with DIY chip repairs.

I took delivery in November of 2021. No chips so far. I think you’re just unlucky enough to have been hit by debris big enough to chip the glass. ?ā€ā™‚?

Well. In addition to small several chips on the windshield. I got a rock chip on the paint almost at the center of the hood. I have never had a rock chip in the middle of the hood before. We were very careful driving on highway. We stay far far far behind from 18 wheelers, trucks or full-size SUVs after having a Mach E. We still have many paint chips on bumper, hood, fender, pillar and windshield and both MMEs have/had less than 2,500 miles on them. Not to mention that both had a flat tire. It might be the aerodynamic design as previously mentioned and the lb/in2 on each tire.

Iā€˜ve been driving for 48 years. Before I got my Mach-E I had a grand total of 2 chipped windshields in my life. I had the Mach-E 4 months before it got a chip. Six months later, my wife got one in her CR-V. Then less than a year after that, I got one in my Explorer.

I’ve concluded that there’s just a lot more crap on the roads around here these days.

I too have had several small chips. My theory is it is most likely caused by a)the aerodynamics of the car and b) the heavy rains here in California causing a lot more potholes/debris in the road.

I was able to repair the first (and largest of the chips) but the others are small enough that they won't bother me or spread.

I have also had more door dings and scratches in this car than any other car I've had. I've been careful to park away from crowds, I use touchless car washes, and have PPF on the front. I love my car, but it almost seems impossible to keep it nice looking.

Just joined the front windshield chip club and I've only had the car since early March. Seems the problems still exists on the 2023's. It's easy to pick them up.

We had a winter storm with wet snow that stuck onto the trees. I was driving under a tree in the neighborhood when some snow fell off a tree and hit my front windshield. Didn't seem too bad, but yep I had a nice chip.

Another time I was driving on the freeway when the jerk ahead of me drifted out of his lane and onto the road shoulder and kick up a bunch of small winter debris and gave me three small chips.

They need to do something different with the front windshield!

Can anyone recommend a windshield chip repair kit that has worked well for them?
