You can turn the high-beams on the old-fashioned way whenever you want. You are complaining about nothing.

Of course I could. But the car has an auto feature. I just don't think it is implemented particularly well and there's an incredibly easy software fix to make everyone happy.

I just wish it worked like the auto bright/dim feature on non-Ford cars I've owned. I can see an argument for the way Ford has programmed it, but it doesn't fit well with my use case.

I had to turn off my auto high beams for a different reason:

The other day early in the morning someone pulled in front of me but their brake lights were not illiminated (I could see that their headlights were). The auto highbeams got confused and repeatedly flashed them. Of course they thought I was a jerk and pulled over to let me by LOL.

I'm surprised there are so many of you who like this feature. Even if you do like it, a better implementation would be to have the mph selectable on the options screen with an on/off toggle.
Design is all about compromises. Right now the design accommodates the largest number of people by eliminating auto high beams while in residential neighborhoods. That’s where most of Fords customers will be living. The rest of us can just do what drivers did for many decades.

Hmm, I'm living in Seattle's suburbia, and we have a ton of deers.
Just kidding, I actually support your point of view on the high beams.
We have Hawaiian pigs ( a cross between European Boars and polynesian pigs) and goats. The pigs are suicidal. The goats are fearless. No deer.

Cars are designed for the vast majority of users. Just because a feature is not perfect for your exact situation doesn’t mean it needs to be changed.
Some idiot driving through residential areas with their high beams on is much more annoying and dangerous than having to manually turn them on in a rural setting (literally takes half second to turn them on).

Manually having to turn on the high beems sounds about as annoying as having to actually flush a toilet.....

There seem to be a lot of you who hate the idea of people driving through your neighborhoods with high beams on. Perhaps your neighborhoods are situated differently than those I've lived in, but why is this so bothersome? Maybe I'm missing something.

Also, it's interesting to me that Ford takes a very different approach to this than other manufacturers.

You mean like Toyota that makes you leave the stalk “on” and puts a button the dash to turn auto off/on? I never understood the rationale for that…

In this case, I meant more like GM. But if I recall my Mitsubishi worked the same way as my Chevy. If you have it set to auto, it just detects if there are other cars. If there aren't, the high beams turn on. If there are, they turn off.
