I actually don't get this. What's in the Premium, that's not in the AWD RT1, that makes it, theoretically, take two months longer: stereo, liftgate, laminated glass?
Who the heck knows. Ordering the Tesla Model Y right now, EDD is in July for the base model (no upgrades). But change to the 20” tires or the white seats and the EDD pulls in to April. The whys of these things are unknowable.

Might also be related to demand being higher on the Premium. For me, having projector headlights on the Premium outweighed all other Premium features and sold me on the P vs. the cheaper CARt1.
Yeah, I wanted those headlights which is one reason I ordered the Premium to start. But if I pushed off delivery by two months, I might wind up with the Tesla if it came sooner. My family is very impatient, including (and mostly) me. So order is now a Route 1. I’m sure I’ll be just as happy with it, if I do buy it that is.

My personal thought, that I think pretty much everyone disagrees with, is that LED projector headlamps are overkill in the brightness department and that the standard headlamps, i.e. LED reflectors, should be just fine.

Don't forget the Model Y lost its power passenger seat. For a 60k car that's a shit deal.

Whichever you choose its awesome you are going electric. I don't think either is a bad choice.

I thought it only lost lumbar support for the passenger seat. Am I wrong?

Salesforce CEO has a new pro for MME over Tesla Y. I bet his employees miss the fart noises during the zoom calls now.

This has been a very informative read and lots of replies in under a week. Here's my situation.

I have deposits in on 3 EV's: The MYLR, the MME & the Audi Q4 etron.

Some thoughts:
  1. The Tesla deposit is actually a fee, but at $100 I won't feel bad about losing it.
  2. I have a $500 deposit in on a MME and $1k for the Q4, but those are refundable.
  3. I still haven't driven a MME yet (same goes for the Q4 unless the ID.4 counts) but have test driven the MYLR a couple times. It's hard to really compare when availability is so sparse right now. Is there a good place to rent a MME?
  4. To me, Tesla is like the iPhone of cars. This turns me off as I've never owned an Apple device of any kind. I also don't really want the same car as everyone else here in SoCal. The MY looks like a M3 as well. Only the MX looks distinctive to me and there are still lots of those around. And the MX is mega-bucks.
  5. The MY only has the one screen and it's not tilted toward the driver, why? Also, my arm blocks part of the screen when driving it. The screen should be on a TV type tilt, pan, swivel mount.
  6. No instrument cluster OR HUD on the MY. My old Prius Prime had a HUD which made up for the lack of an instrument cluster behind the wheel. Why don't the M3 and MY have HUDs? I can accept no HUD with the instrument cluster, I'm not sure I can w/o one.
  7. My MY EDD is currently 12/4 to 12/31, but I have no plans to take delivery this year, while waiting to see what Congress does with the taxes.
  8. No shade in the MY. I don't give a hoot about sunroofs. I'd much rather have a metal roof for two reasons: One is the heat here in SoCal, especially Palm Desert and 2, I'm a ham radio operator and glass makes for a very poor ground plane.
  9. To me the "minimalism" of the MY turns me off. I want more physical buttons and Audi does this right. The Ford seems way better than the MY in this regard as well, but I will know more after a test drive.
  10. We are in no rush to get another EV. We have a Volvo XC40 P8 Recharge right now and a Subaru CT PHEV.
  11. The Teslas already seem to be old and tired technology to me. If it wasn't for their SC network, I wouldn't even consider one, but since they are all so busy I wonder why that should matter. Trips beyond 2 hours are very rare for us.
  12. ACC and Lane Centering are features I really want and both the MME and MY have these from what I can tell.
  13. The biggest hold Tesla has over me at the moment is that I would almost certainly be able to get one long before a MME or a Q4. Can I resist Tesla with a VIN in hand?
Just a few thoughts for the moment. Now, how can I get behind the wheel of a MME before I potentially fall into the Tesla trap?

The why part is easy: To cut costs of parts and assembly. And brainwash people to think that less is more. Replace everything with the false full self-driving claim and charge even more for the non-existent feature. Claim that you don't need anything since the car will "soon" drive you to your destinations and earn money for you as a robotaxi. To cover other deficiencies, distract with fart app and Easter eggs.

Remember a million robo-taxis coming in 2020, according to Elon Musk? According to him, your $50k car will earn $30k per year while you sleep or work. And will last a million miles.
Some will say these are fraudulent practices.
It I was doing these, I would've been behind bars a long time ago.

I wasn't following EVs then, but yeah, there it is. Considering how "polished" FSD is now, it's probably a good thing this hasn't happened yet.

Elon Musk Predicts Tesla Driverless Taxi Fleet Next Year (2019 article))

Another negative for Tesla is they can't use CCS w/o an unauthorized adapter that I've seen Tesla disables thru software. The fact that, with a Tesla, I won't be able to charge at CCS stations (and avoiding the long Tesla SC lines) is not good.

I know about CHAdeMO adapters, but really how many are out there - 1 at each DCFC station?... Teslas in Europe have it better in that regard.

I didn't see anyone mention that the Mach E still qualifies for the federal $7500 tax rebate. The Tesla does not. So in addition to Pepper's well thought out posts, I would say $7500 is another huge reason to strongly consider the Mach E. I ordered the Mach E for all the reasons Pepper said plus the huge rebate, in addition to potential state rebates I may qualify for on top of that.

Also, my wife didn't enjoy the one-pedal driving when test driving both vehicles. On the Tesla, she's stuck with it. On the Mach E, she can turn it off and drive in the traditional two-pedal method she currently prefers, although I think in time she'll come around.

I would be shocked if you didn't get overwhelming votes for Tesla on their forum and overwhelming votes for Mach-E here. I test drove both and just loved the Mach-E more. Better looking in my opinion and more comfortable to sit in. I would guess the build quality will better on the Mach-E and the software will be better on the Model Y. In any case I think you will enjoy whichever one you choose.
Ah yes, this is what is known as "confirmation bias". Happens all the time. I try to not fall into that trap and be open and objective.

This is exactly how I've thought of Tesla. They are making a great product, but I hate how proprietary they are. Need to make some repairs? Good luck. You'll have to pay them per day to have access to the operating system of YOUR CAR. How ridiculous is that? I believe they are currently being sued by some groups for the "right to repair". I just find that whole concept absurd.

Testdrove Y today...... By specs and features it is comparable to Premier ER AWD...... it is slightly cheaper though (if you don't count fed tax credit).......
The delivery time for Y is probably the same as for Mach - E..... April...... I hated that there is no display behind the steering wheel, but the salesman said that in a couple of days I will stop thinking about it........ I loved that 3d video that shows all the cars around and traffic lights...... technically you don't need that $10k full self drive in order to have something like Blue Drive on ford. Their regular driveassist works similar to BD except you need to touch the steering wheel every minute or so....
Unlike FORD their order fee (250) is non refundable. They also don't offer many configuration options, so I think I'll stick with MME for now.........
