In theory, yes, it’s better to let the battery cool before charging.

In reality, the AC charge rate of about 0.1C won’t make a meaningful difference either way.
I wonder if the recommendation is not necessarily because of the heat itself since the car will actively cool the battery as needed while charging, but more so to let the voltage stabilize and let the BECM get resting voltage measurements and recalibrate the SoC as needed before starting to charge.

But it’s far easier to just tell the consumer “let the battery cool down before charging” instead of explaining all that.

There won’t be any issues, just low health. What do they say the battery state of health is?
Are you sure that SOH reading is the HVB? it is right next to the LVB SOC, which suggests to me that it is reporting the SOH on the LVB.
That would make a lot more sense.

They said, there were no errors so the battery must be fine. I do not believe they checked the state of health though that was what I specifically asked them to check.

The SOH has been dropping by about 1% per month so I will wait until it gets below 70% and then bring it to a different dealer. I did find one dealer about 100 miles away that sell a lot of Ford EVs and they seem to take my concerns seriously.

I believe this is the HVB State of Health.

Yes, the SoH value on my car matches what FDRS and PTS says (which is what Ford goes by for warranty). It’s for the high voltage battery; there is no state of health parameter for the 12 V battery.

It’s silly because all they need to do is type your VIN into the PTS computer system and it will show you the current SOH reading.

Once it gets below 70%, I’m sure there will be some people at Ford (not your dealer) that will want to facilitate the replacement of the defective battery and possibly analyze the old pack.

23 miles of range at 5% charge, no matter what your driving conditions are, seems suspiciously high, but that is the opposite of a low health battery. Something definitely seems odd.

Not according to the out of state service department that exchanged emails with. He asked for my VIN so he could look it up and this was his response.

The VIN is not showing us a state of health. We would need to set up an appt to get involved. Brian said he has never seen any state of health below 96-97% and is not aware of any aftermarket scan tools capable of showing that data.
If you would like, I can set up an appt at our next available time, but Brian is booked out at least a few weeks.
Let me know if this is something you would like to do.
Thanks,

yeah, maybe. I have wondered if this SoH issue is not a problem with the battery but with the BECM. Mostly, I am frustrated with my dealer. I continue to be nothing but happy with my Mach-e.

Do you have a ‘23? My 23 had the BECM glitch where the charge port never shut off after reaching the target charge. Always wondered how bad that glitch threw off the battery calibration numbers. My car is about 2 years old now and the SOH was down to 86%. I did the MachLee calibration procedure and it is now 92 which still seems low on a car with 13000 miles and a gently maintained battery with 25-50 percent charge sessions and keeping it around 40% or lower during the hottest time in the summer in MA.

Yes, My car is also a 23. How did you learn about your BECM glitch?

The blue oval light would remain on pulsing after the car reached its target charge.
