I wonder if the recommendation is not necessarily because of the heat itself since the car will actively cool the battery as needed while charging, but more so to let the voltage stabilize and let the BECM get resting voltage measurements and recalibrate the SoC as needed before starting to charge.In theory, yes, it’s better to let the battery cool before charging.
In reality, the AC charge rate of about 0.1C won’t make a meaningful difference either way.
But it’s far easier to just tell the consumer “let the battery cool down before charging” instead of explaining all that.
