I hate the new UI on the drivers front screen.

I don't even care about the UI update, but my car appears to be boycotting 6.8.0 all on its own
I have auto updates turned off. I’ll not be getting 6.8.
Does that make me a bad person?
No, contrary to popular opinion about this topic, one size does not fit all.
In my case it's only covered when my right hand is in the 1 o'clock position. I find myself often driving that way.
That’s a hard habit to break, I find myself frequently doing the same. Nonetheless, 9 and 3 are preferred by the NHTSA these days.

I liked how my screen looked before an update ruined it for me. I was used to seeing a blue bar along the bottom of the screen with the amount of battery remaining. My speedometer showed the speed right in the center of the screen. Now I have a car in the center of my screen and my speed is pushed all the way to the right where now my steering wheel blocks it. WHY FORD!? I hate it, it's a total waste of space. Unless there is something I'm missing. In the past I could get out of that screen layout by pressing the lane assist button and turning it off, then the screen would go back, but now it's stuck this way. I really hope I missed something.

I own a 2023 purchased in February. I don’t know any different. I like the layout. I really like the car in the center, I get visual feedback if I’m am in bluecruise, lane assist, cruise control, dynamic cruise control… as others have stated, my speedometers have always been on the side, and at 6’5”, I can never see the speed without contorting my neck — this one is easier for me to see, so it’s a win for me.
All that being said, I do wish Ford would let us customize our console. I think they should have a bunch of widgets, and panels. They could divide the screen into 3 or 4 panels, and let us choose which widgets we want in each — similar to how smart phones do it. I also think being able to change color themes and choose different graphic styles would be a nice to have. For instance, the orange bars that appear in unbridled mode, having different shapes and colors that can be used for other modes — why not? It seems there is a lot of potential, and Ford being a big car company is moving at corporate speed. Still, having the ability to get updates without going to the dealership and spending money on those updates makes all the shortcomings worth it.

after all, this is a car, not a desktop computer — even if the car is powered by a computer.

I turned off lane assist on day one of driving this car because the IPC layout is annoying and the warning is also annoying. I drove for decades without having the car tell me what lane I was in, I don't really need it now.

There is a reason it has a button right on the steering wheel--one of the few buttons in the car at all--because lots of people don't like it, or don't like it some of the time.

Anyway, when one wants to use "the cool technology" inside the car, they can push the button. When I want to use cruise, which is about once a month, I push the button and then the cruise button, and whaala, I have the same ugly display. But in cruise it provides good information.

Also, for the location of the speed-o.... those who have never used the center layout should be aware that when you use turn-by-turn or when a warning pops up on the screen then the speed shifts right. But, it does not move WAY right like it does in this awful permanent IPC layout, it shares the screen with other information. If the speed was sharing with a useless car icon it would be a LOT less annoying than having the stupid car totally dominate.

Sorry, complaining about this will never get old. I did not even consider a Tesla entirely because of the lack of an IPC. I almost certainly would've waited for EV6 to hit the market if the MachE had this display when I ordered in late 2021.

it seems that it helped the processor switch from blue Cruise back-and-forth to the main screen. it is definitely faster when Bluecruise functions are activated (lane assist……)

My wife's car is in the shop getting the low charge rate issues checked out. I am forced to drive the loaner Edge and I have to say I miss my little blue dashboard car..

I got this same message last week. The windshield was clean, but the road lane lines were not visible as they were covered with snow.
No snow in Miami!!

This may seem obvious but may I suggest (if not already done), turning on distance indication under the driver assist menu in SNYC (Not sure what it’s called exactly). With this option selected, the car in the center shows a blue distance indicatator which gets shorter and ultimately turns red when you are moving and are too close to the car in front of you according to the driver assist logic (with bluecruise and adaptive cruise turned off). At least with this option, the car icon is meaningful even with lane assist turned off. I happen to like knowing when the car thinks I'm too close as an indication of when the safety systems may kick in but also as a general reminder sometimes to ease off.

2024 one would think you could customize it. I know many other manufacturers allow it. To me. Boring

As for turning off updates, that works for inhibit updates only. 6..8, which accomplishes this change, is an inhibit update.
There's going to be a minimum software level to get access to the Tesla network, I bet. It would make sense, all the flurry of updates across so many years, with the deadline of getting Supercharger access.

I certainly wouldn't stay on 6.8 and lose Supercharger, just to have the number in the middle [if that's the tradeoff, no one has said that, but.... ]

But all you who are so critical of the layout - be you!
