I see I'm getting dinged on my insurance company app for "Sudden Braking" when I'm in Unbridle mode (I don't use 1PD anymore). I don't recall using the brake all that much so I'm wondering if it is simply the deceleration rate in that mode. The app says sudden braking is defined as greater than 8 mph per second.

Anyone else see this? Has anyone quantified the deceleration rate in unbridled or 1PD?

My rates are pretty reasonable as is, just not getting much of a discount at this point so I'm considering discontinuing the app.

Sudden braking too with State Farm. Even in Whisper mode. It seems like the State Farm sensor is much more sensitive than the previous sensor (several years old) I had in my previous car.

Acceleration is also low. I'm a pretty conservative driver, but that's not safe in heavy traffic.

I will never voluntarily give my driving data to the insurance company. It's not worth the couple bucks in savings every month in my opinion.

I have ford insure which uses the vehicle's telemetry (for the 90 day monitoring window). Hard braking and acceleration events trigger at 7.7mph/s delta. Even in a GTPE, 1pd unbridled didn't come close to triggering it. The max braking I see in unbridle on the PE is 5.5mph/s. Some insurance company is really trying to stick it to you.

I managed to get about 25% discount on the MME despite lots of acceleration events :)

Do keep in mind that it's 1 event per second per delta V. So slamming on brakes from 77 mph to zero = however many seconds it takes. So 7 seconds of heavy braking = 7 dings.

I can appreciate your perspective even if I don't share it.

To me it seems like a pretty fair economic trade off, I demonstrate my level of risk and they price accordingly. After all why should I share the same rate with reckless drivers of similar demongraphics?

The cost/benefit has changed with the Mach E. I don't think it is so much my driving style but the car itself.

I am actually pretty pleased with my rate as I expected it to go up more with the new car. Probably a trade off between cost to fix and all the accident avoidance technology. Insurance is basically a statistical game and the more data the more appropriate the pricing.

Thank you for the feedback. Where did you get the deceleration rate numbers? Is it from the insurance app itself or something MME related? My insurance app just flags them on a map but I don't see quantitative information. It is hard to tell from the app whether it is the actual braking to a stop or the initial foot off the throttle.

There are reports of insurance companies devaluing claims based on this driving data.

I buy insurance to protect me and my assets in catastrophic events. I, personally, never use insurance for windshields or small items. I want full coverage, with my umbrella to back it, when I need it. In the unfortunate event that I need to use it, I don't want to fight over late night driving, quick accelerations, 1pd or speeding. I have a GTPE for a reason and it's not to drive like my grandmother.

Insurance companies aren't in the business of losing money. Your discount is only good when it's convenient for them and you better bet that every piece of data they collect will come back and bite you.

Our insurance has this available. My wife uses it, I don’t. She gets a credit of about $5 per month. I tell her to be sure to shut it off when she’s riding with me! ?

People are misunderstanding how this works. For 90 days only does it monitor time of day, and changes of velocity in excess of 7..7mph/s. After the initial 90 days, its gone. If you're with an insurance company that does it differently, choose another provider. This data doesn't affect claims. It doesn't monitor in perpetuity. There's a 90 day snapshot to establish a baseline of performance.

I changed up my policy to full coverage including glass, vanishing deductible, new car replacement, and a whole list of little add ons and the policy is ~450/6mo. There's a lot of folks who are underinsured and don't even know it. Statefarm had me underinsured for my vehicles and I've now got more than double the coverage / perks for much less money via ford insure.

I knew Tesla did this with their insurance. I didn't know others did it as well. How do they get the data?

This is where I'm headed, it just isn't worth the hassle.

This data doesn't affect claims.
A simple Google search would say otherwise. There's multiple attorneys who warn against this type of insurance due to denial of claims based on the data.

Data retention of 90 days doesn't matter when you're in an accident 5 minutes ago.

If you have fine print from a policy specifically stating they won't use it against you in a claim please post a picture, otherwise no way in buying that they won't use that data.
