Job 1 Premium without working inside Frunk button. I have a question?

I have a question I am about to make an appt for state inspection at local dealer. Almost 2 years owning the Mach-e and the Frunk button inside the Frunk never worked. I think I read it can be programmed to work and activate the onscreen button. Do you know what I need to ask the dealer to do to program it? Will Ford cover the cost of the programing? Any advice or help is appreciated. Thanks

The dealer needs to do 3 things with FDRS:

1. Update the BCM
2. Update the GFM
3. Run the "Add front trunk soft button" routine

There is no bulletin from Ford that authorizes dealers to do it for free. But maybe you'll have a nice dealer.

My dealer did the first two steps because they were updating the BCM for an unrelated reason. Once they do that, their instructions cause them to update the GFM (aka FTRM).

So I can now open the front trunk via the b-pillar pad. Since they didn't run step 3, it doesn't show up on sync. And Ford hasn't chosen to show it on FordPass, either.

Does the programming take a long time or is it one of the quicker ones?

Important to note that the dealer cannot enable the frunk button in FordPass. To the best of my knowledge, no job 1 owners have a working FordPass frunk button - just the screen and door pillar.

Right. Ford will have to do that on the server side whenever they decide to.

I am wondering why @Ford Motor Company is not covering us Job 1 owners with a working Frunk Button in the Frunk? Seems like it would be an easy recall for us.

It wouldn’t be a recall since it’s not a safety issue. But they could certainly release it as a CSP.
Pretty annoying that they haven't yet. We shouldn't have to try and cash a favor from the dealer, hoping they'll do something unofficial for us.

Should be a CSP, and even better, pushed via OTA.

I would not at all complain about having a button on the screen, but is it really that hard just to bend over and pull the release twice? I use my frunk a lot (I keep my bike pump and tools there) and don’t really mind.
