This thread just made me not want to get a JuiceBox.
You don't need the app at all for the Mach E, the car can set all the scheduling
You might as well get the Grizzle charge. It's cheaper and you don't have to worry about the Juice Box crappy app.
First, the app just changed. Up to now, the old app and the website were far superior to other interfaces.

Second, there are reasons to not buy a barebones charger.

1) Possible rebate / discounted price from your utility company. Mine gave me $500, but required I buy either the JB or ChargePoint units. Some actually sell the units for a discount vs. giving a rebate.

2) Some units, like the JuiceBox, provide the ability to share a circuit between multiple units. So I can have one 60amp circuit, two JB48s, and charge two vehicles in the future. The Grizzl-E doesn't have that capability.

3) If you have peak and off-peak hours, the JuiceBox can be set for the same hours, preventing electricity usage outside those hours without your direct action. So, if I remote start during peak hours, I know that my JB isn't supplying power unless I tell it to. Same with setting a departure time. Can't do that with a Grizzl-E.

4) If all that matters is money, let's compare math. I got my JB48 for $625 plus tax, call it $650. I then got $500 back from my utility company, spending $150 net. I then got a 30% tax credit, spending $105 net. Had I bought the Grizzl-E, I would have spent say $425, got no rebate from my utility company, got a tax credit of $127.50, and have spent $297.50. So, for me and many others, the JuiceBox is in fact less expensive.

My power company has a preferred rate for people with a Juicebox or Chargepoint charger. They do $.028 off peak and $.07 mid peak so we are in agreement. However, I don't use the juicebox app and set scheduling.

I returned 2 JB chargers. One failed and I couldn't deal with the crappy software on the second unit. I wasn't playing the game of waiting for Enel to update the app. Look how long it takes Ford to update their software
I live in a high rise condo with detached garages. The management installed a 30amp outlet in the garage at no added cost to me. All I do is pay for the electric at a commercial rate.

No rebate
Only need to charge one car
No peak, off peak discounts
No tax credit available.

These reasons do not apply to everyone.
That is why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream.

And that is true, but you realize most of the folks probably did some comparisons when they bought. This thread is about a software update for the Juicebox chargers so most folks posting here already own a EVSE and its most likely a juicebox.

So respect that you love your charger choice, but know your audience

My issue with the JB is that the software is crap. It made the charger unusable.

No it didn't.
Uhh, it made mine default to 6A charge rate, and the only way to fix it was to set it with the old app, then tel my router to prevent my JB from having internet access. Otherwise the new app kept changing the charge rate back to 6A. It was absolutely an unusable shit show. I now have a $650 “smart” charger that isn’t connected to wifi (and btw, I could only disconnect it from wifi via my router, because the app wouldn’t work for that either).

Exactly, I would say it was not apple or Google but not bad. AAR Juicebox sees an opportunity to make it better and that's why they are changing the app

The new app showed 6amp for me. Website showed 32amps, and it was. 2 weeks later, app showed 32amps. Changed it to 48amps, verified it worked at 48amps, changed it back to 32amps.

I was not about to hack around with it for 2 weeks. If these companies insist on cloud based stuff, it better work. My car just needs to charge. It’s a charger for God’s sake. And the app update broke charging functionality. That’s ridiculous. And I have a home power meter. The 6A was actually 6A. It was trickle charging.

I was going to buy the Grizzl-E Classic for my MME, it’s $395 on Amazon, thinking I don’t need the smart side of it.

But seeing the Juicebox on Amazon for $649 and it has a $60 coupon, bringing it to $589.
And Jersey offers a $250 incentive on smart chargers, bringing it a bit below the price of the Grizzl-E.

Is it worth it or should I stick with a basic charger?

The second issue is that when setting up my vehicle (2021 Mach E premium with extended battery) the only option is a Model year 2019.
You made the “mistake” of choosing Mustang Mach-e as the Model. You actually have to select Mustang as the model and then choose your Mach-e version as the version and then you get the correct year options.
