Do you have your FOB in cat? I would think you would need your fob in car to set up drive code.

Yes I had Fob and phone in car when attempting configuration.... problem is PAAK does not recognize my specific phone as 'supported' for PAAK functionality. I have deleted and re-attempted configuration multiple times 'from scratch' with no success. My phone is never recognized as a valid PAAK device, so I never get a valid 6-digit passcode.

As I recall (it was just a few days ago!!), I unintstalled FordPass on my phone, then reinstalled it. My account info was still there, so I deleted the car and re-added it using the scanned bar code on the window sticker. There was a thread post I followed (maybe by Maric). The process started over again to create the PaaK, which I was then able to get through all the way to the passcode setup. I still was unable to use PaaK reliably which is why I have ordered a second fob. May be related to poor cell reception at my daughter's house.

I have un-installed FordPass from phone, removed and re-enter my VIN from my Ford.com account, and started from scratch several times. my phone is never seen as a valid Key, so the system never registers that PAAK was ever set up, so I never get a valid passcode.

I have acceptable cell service, wi-fi, and no problem with the other Bluetooth pairings of my phone to car.... just can't configure PAAK.

Isn't the issue that Phone-as-a-Key doesn't support Android at all right now? Or did that get resolved?

I ordered one from Cars and Trucks - had dealer program it yesterday for my FE - works great. Looks identical to one that came with the car. Called some of the locksmiths listed for my area on the Cars and Trucks site - the first one said could not do it and the second one did not get back to me. So had dealer do it - one advantage is that if anything goes wrong with the programming, I have a dealer who is responsible. FWIW. BTW got the second FOB because of concerns that PAAK may not always work, and my wife will be using the second FOB. I don't remember the last time a FOB didn't work absent a dead battery in the FOB. So why can we get an identical FOB from Cars and Trucks but not Ford?

I ordered mine from same place and the picture they showed is different from yours. The picture you show isn't identical for Mach E that I test drove. Mach E has 4 buttons and remote start isn't one of the buttons. What did dealer charge you for programming your FOB? Since the Mach E doesn't need an emergency key did he give you a break on price to program it? Did you watch and if so, did he use a machine to do it?

if it does not recognize your FOB that would be a problem. it should at least recognize the FOB and let you set passcode or start car. But if you have FOB in car and car says no valid key that would mean an issue with the FOB/car i would think. You need 1 "admin" key. That would be your FOB until you change it.

this was one of my two serious guesses as well... the other being that I thought some folks had said these were the same fobs as ICE Mustangs (although without remote start I don't see how? is that still optional on the ICE Mustangs?) and Ford's site was just being pickier about allocating stock to different models.

Remote start is not available on all Mustangs. For example, don't think Ford offers remote start for a manual transmission Mustang.

I have an Android phone (samsung Galaxy Note 9), and after the reinstall/re-add car, I was able to complete the PaaK process to the point where I was able to enter the personal codes for entry and starting.

Remote start is not available on all Mustangs. For example, don't think Ford offers remote start for a manual transmission Mustang.

Surprisingly yes, they do not offer remote start on the manual Mustang. Always thought that was a missed opportunity.

you cannot set a passcode with just a Fob as far as I can tell, you MUST successfully set up a PaaK to get the original passcode needed to start the car without a key

Ok, that is a little ridiculous. I'd probably take it to another dealer. The parts are out there both from Ford and from third parties. Very odd a service department would give up what is basically a free billable hour, since the process only takes like five minutes



Phone-as-a-Key is even unreliable on cars who have had it for many years--namely, the Tesla Model 3. I was already completely ready to need another fob buying into the Mach E. They didn't hide the fact that it only comes with one

The decision to make PAAK based on bluetooth and not NFC is a mistake. I have it on my BMW and it works pretty flawlessly with NFC and apple car key. If they wanted to use bluetooth there should at least be an NFC backup incase the bluetooth pairing is lost.

depends on your viewpoint. Everybody has Bluetooth. Not everybody has NFC, and on Apple devices, NFC was very locked down until iOS 13. That's part of why Car Key (which others have pointed out is their branding of a relatively new standard) has to exist at all.

Meanwhile in Android land, there are current Android phones shipping right now that have no NFC in them.

Going with NFC only in 2019 (remember design timing) would have been insanely restrictive.

note this is a different discussion than "should they have included NFC hardware for future use". it's strictly about what's possible today.

Sadly, this definitely not true. There are plenty of examples of people on this forum who have been unable to set up PAAK at all.

that is exactly the problem.... I cannot complete the configuration of PAAK with my phone, so I get no passcode

Yes, use the fob. That's the only option if PaaK cannot be setup at all.

I will try that later today, with no phone and no fob. But, I was able to enter a start code, and some have not gotten that far.
