The is no good reason to buy an adapter right now. Why not just wait it out and see how this all shakes out.

The V4 chargers are being installed with Magic Docks, screens and CC readers, so no adapter will ever be needed on those.
Very true. The few v4 dispensers (which may be connected to v3 chargers, btw) installed so far appear to have Magic Docks and CC readers. Whether the rest will is another good question. Tesla might just be using these installations to test equipment. We've seen in the past that Tesla has released a few really enticing products like the first release of the low-price Model Ys, only to pull them from the online store a few weeks later.

Why not just wait and see what happens next year?
That's what I'm doing. I'm not about to count Elon's chickens before they're hatched.

You are missing my point. Nowhere in this statement does it say that adapters won't be required:
"Tesla, for the first time, will open a portion of its U.S. Supercharger and Destination Charger network to non-Tesla EVs, making at least 7,500 chargers available for all EVs by the end of 2024."

To believe that is absolutely the case is like believing we will all get free adapters in the mail.

When reading announcements like this, it is important to read what they DON'T say explicitly. Reading more into the statement than the statement says leads to wishful thinking.

I truly hope you are right in your interpretation. I, however, won't assume that the statement says something it does not.
This seems to backup my belief that Tesla is going to do a mass rollout of Magic Docks.

Nice. It will be interesting to see if these are
  • V4 or V3 stations with MD (I’d bet V4)
  • Funded with NEVI $
Some seem to be reserved for fleets, so therefore no NEVI dollars I don't think. But no breakout between public vs. private.

the actual bp press release notes bp does have both NEVI and california CEC awards where these will be used and confirmed they will all have magic dock style setups. the pics show v4 dispensers which make sense since they are the only ones with required payment terminals. but as yet we have no confirmation on the actual charger cabinets supplying them yet so 250kW is probably the initial capability with the current <500v limitation.

So v4 dispensers with v3 charging cabinets. At least they’ll have longer cables.

An interesting note on this came up today on the Batteries Included podcast:
Companies are limited on how much NEVI funding they can get. With a deal like this, BP (or anyone else) can get NEVI funding and buy chargers from Tesla even if Tesla has reached their funding limit.

the only brit on the podcast said that with no citation or reference. the NEVI program is distributed to the states for with rules around equity and other normal federal requirements but the program itself doesn't have any limitation on per-company funding that i can find. individual states may have some limitations based more on in-state procurement rules but the overall federal program doesn't.

Good point. Take Martin's comment with a grain of salt.

Sooooo for the NACS CCS adapters, we now have three choices
  • A2Z EV : reputable among the EV community, they did an interview with Tom Moloughney on YouTube, talked about safety, certifications and OEM interactions, which might be Tesla (or not). They have proven results 2 days ago on X. Pre-sales have not started as they seem to be waiting for an official approbation from Tesla, which makes sense.
  • 152kW on a 160kW charger is incredible.

On the other hand we have Lectron, very well known, that is eager to start sales without any proven results or very little details. They seem to delete comments on their product page as well. No approbation, no certification, no real product besides 3D pictures. To me it seems they are skipping some steps here and if they don't get approved by Tesla, the adapter will be a good garage decoration,...

My gut says to trust A2Z EV, but then Lectron is taking preorders, I feel like I should wait at least for Tesla to open their superchargers or simply get an adapter from Ford. Safety is very concerning here, I don't think that Tesla will let any company use their network just like that without a ''background check''.

I will either wait for Ford or A2Z EV, which has been more than professional holding up the sales and making sure everything is safe and certified.

Thats a V2 supercharger, so that adapter won't work there at all.
