Are there any potential sources of condensation on a Mach-E (or in your garage) where water could run downhill underneath the sensor? Could that trigger it if it was overly sensitive?

This got me thinking....

So this happened around the same time I lit a fire in the fireplace on the story above that would have created a decent draft to replace the air going up the flu. the only stuff in my garage that could have moved though would have been dust or maybe some styrofoam insulation (great to have on hand when you are breaking down plywood). the timing is close-ish.

HA, to be fair, nothing was out of place in the garage, and a draft moving a 5lb piece of styrofoam would be....odd

I still say all the hate for the kick sensor is unsupported by evidence. Question for those with cameras in their garage, has the liftgate ever opened and closed on its own? It would stand to reason that if the cause is something triggering the sensor to open the liftgate the same thing would intermittently close it as well. @DevSecOps, you seem to have the greatest frequency of openings. Maybe you could monitor for closing events.

It's never closed, only opened. Well ... I take that back. IF, big IF, it closed I wouldn't have checked the cameras because I wouldn't have known.

But now you have me wondering. I think I'm going to set up a zwave sensor on liftgate and tie it to an alarm notification so that I can test this.

Hmm, what kind of Zwave sensor? IVe got a few ultrasonic sensors that would detect that if it becomes a thing I may set up (ESPHOME).

Since you experience the issue fairly regularly you could also try turning the kick sensor off through Sync to see if that stops it.
The main reason I discount the kick as the cause is that you would also have to have a failure of the proximity sensor for the liftgate. The fob/PaaK has to be much closer to the liftgate for the kick to function than it does to the doors for them to open.

It works if the door is unlocked as I discovered this morning

Just a multi-sensor. I'll just use it like a normal door sensor and stick it to the liftgate.

Mike, you should know me well enough by now to know that I won't settle with that. I want to know why and how to fix it. If I disable it then I'll never be able to replicate it.

Only if the kick sensor is in fact the culprit. If you turn it off and the issue still occurs then we can clear the kick as the problem once and for all. AFAIK you are the only one that sees this with regularity.

Interesting. It's not supposed to.
I just tried mine several times and I couldn't get the liftgate to open using the kick sensor with the doors unlocked. The button on the liftgate worked though.
The kick worked to open and close when I had the fob in my hand. Setting the fob on a shelf ~10' right and forward of the sensor was enough to disable the kick. So, operating as designed.

Really? Why not? if the doors are unlocked why not allow the back to be opened conveniently by say a passenger carrying something heavy?
