Hello everyone,

I recently picked up my Mach E premium ER last Friday and have been absolutely loving the car!! But I’ve been hearing this really loud humming/vibrating noise while the car is in drive or reverse. When the car is in park it does not happen.

the climate controls are off so I know it’s not the AC or fan spinning.

does anyone have any ideas??

thanks,
Bill

That's the federally required pedestrian alert system All new EVs have to have something like that. When it is in reverse, it should add a pinging/beeping noise.

I definitely hear the pinging noise when I’m in reverse but that loud humming is normal then? When I’m in drive?

Yes. The sounds are made by everyone’s Mach-E. It makes that sound up to around 20 mph so pedestrians and visually impaired people know you are approaching.

That recorded sound is exactly what I am hearing.

I have had my mach-e for two months now and my wife and neighbor swear we never heard that humming before this morning.

Thanks for the post.

Have you figured out the source of the noise? I have the same thing--the noise goes away in Park but makes a loud humming noise when I shift to Drive or Reverse even though the car is not moving. Does the sound ever go away while you're driving?

Yeah, it is a safety feature this turns off after you hit a certain drive speed. It is for pedestrians to be able to hear the vehicle at slow speeds.

I am in agreement with Kalanis. We heard it for the first time after driving our Pony for 6 months. Sounds more like a cooling fan to me, which would be a strange choice as a warning to pedestrians. I am going to listen more carefully with the windows down, or listen outside while my wife puts it in Drive (and remains stationary of course!) as it is always quiet in Park.
