Hey now, I am actually selling my first year model Chevy Volt for this Mustang Mach E. Yes, GM did an awful job at marketing that car and should have emphasized its PHEV characterics more. But GM did take very good care of me as a first year/early adopter customer, which sounds like some of the folks who did the same with the Mach E didn't enjoy. I had GM Engineers calling me on any little matter, even if related to faulty public charging stations. Heck they even sent me a very nice scale model of the Volt. To be fair, Ford has done some similar things as an early Bronco owner but obviously that is a little different since we are dealing with new technology here.
I actually like the Gen 2 Volt a lot. I mostly blame GM for cancelling that one, presumably it was because they weren't making money on them but I think PHEVs in general are a better option for a lot of people. They are selling for good money on the used market.

I'm getting a little fed up with these absurd speed comparisons. No one (at least, no one in their sane right mind) buys a MachE to race. If I want to win endurance races, I'd buy a Ford GT. If I want to self-stimulate on the drag strip, I'd buy a Model S Plaid.

The MachE is an extremely practical car - particularly for city driving. The speed burst you get at sub 60 mph is better than practically anything in its price range. When I need power to pass or get myself out of a bad situation, I can out-power just about anything on the road. It's also got a super-comfortable cabin, solid trunk space, and has a great exterior look to it. Throw in the savings you get with electricity and the EV credit and it was a no-brainer. Ford did a great job with this one.

I can only recall one instance in my 7 months of ownership where I floored it like a drag race - I was all alone on a straightaway and just wanted to see how fast it could go.

That’s fair, it is possible.

And if the SS were built on any of the above platforms, I’d be more optimistic.

Instead, its starting point is the poor handling Lyriq. No doubt it’ll be tuned more for performance than the Cadillac, I’m just not expecting much.

My guess is the SS will follow the same exact formula of all the rest of the cars in this thread that “beat” the GTPE.

GTPE will win off the line, handling and braking. SS will win the top end acceleration. 1/4 mile? My guess is super close in E/T with trap speed for the SS. Might even take more than a 1/4 mile for the SS to pass. Mid 12s is my guess either way.

It is interesting how the GTPE can win every performance category but 1 (top end acceleration) and be constantly declared the loser.
Perhaps, we shall see. One thing I can say with almost certainty is that the Blazer project mgr won’t take it around a track for a YouTube video and then release it with an absurd 5 second limit. And, the chassis team will have the steering and dampers tuned in to provide plenty of handling capability in the SS trim.

Plus, one thing people are missing is size. The SS is bigger than the MME by a decent amount - 121.8” wheelbase vs. 117.5. It’s one of the reasons we want one. The MME has good space but the Blazer will be roomier.

Problem is the other performance metrics soon start to become pretty irrelevant, as having good handling so you can maintain speed through corners and good brakes to be able to scrub it off with confidence when needed are all well an good when you actually have need for them.

Do the test around a track where that matters and the GTPE will still be coming up the rear as would been pulling power constantly.

While the 5 second kryptonite albatross hangs around its neck it doesn't really matter how well the other aspects of the GTPE may be if they can never be utilized to there full potential.
All true.

And yet maybe 2 to 3 of the thousands of members here have or will ever take their Mach E to a road course track.

But quick acceleration off the line, great handling and braking? We can use that daily if you like.

It’s kinda like cars hitting 200 mph top speed. Useful for bragging rights only. For a daily driver? I put more emphasis on the performance I can use.

Yes…… I still want the bragging rights, but if I had to pick which to buy and drive…..

Good point about the size. Looks like it’s 11 inches longer and 4 inches wider.

Personally I like the smaller Mach e size but if wanting more room it’s a benefit.

Seems the Equinox EV will be Mach E size.

If I was thinking about a bigger EV, the R1S would be nice but a lot more $$.

Despite that extra length on the GM platform, it doesn't seem to translate to much extra cargo room based on the Lyriq specs.

Lyriq trunk space: 28 cubic feet, 60.8 with the seats down
Mach-E trunk space: 29.7 cubic feet, 59.7 with the seats down

I just checked out a Lyriq at the Detroit auto show and those specs seem to align with my impressions sitting in both rows. You also get the frunk for a little more cargo capacity in the Mach-E.

The Ultium platform also just seems heavier in general. All of GMs upcoming offerings seem significantly heavier than the Ford, VW, and Hyundai/Kia counterparts.

Yep. Lyriq interior space is actually slightly less than the MachE overall. An inch less legroom up front, slightly more hip room. Less cargo.

I read that the Lyriq in China gets a frunk. They did it by putting a smaller (11kw) onboard charger in it. Seems like the larger charger was a bad marketing move on their part as few people in the US are going to be able to charge at 80A.

Unless you bought your car to drag race on a track to make money, who cares? I used to do performance mods on ICE cars, just because I enjoyed the little bit of extra performance, not because someone else's car was a second faster. If you liked the performance when you bought the car, just enjoy it. There will always be a car that is better or faster in some way. And if you're driving like that in my town...don't.

Our only hope is hackers and modders. We should create a bounty program. Example: $25k for the first group to successfully crack the Ford security and enable the full potential of the car. $50k for the team that can do it in a reversible manner (e.g., so Ford can’t determine that you did it).

I’d likely contribute a few grand to that.

Well…… I care for one!

I enjoy the first 5 seconds, but it isn’t fun after that.

When I ordered (April 2021), no one had any clue the limit existed. Took delivery in October, but we still had a lot of hope they would “fix it.”

“Why don’t you sell it then?”

And buy what exactly? All the faster competition is either ugly or crazy expensive.

“There will always be a better car….”

Not yet. Because if there was, I would buy it. So if someone builds a better looking, similar size, faster, similar price car……… ill buy it.

Honestly - no issues with posting this. We all want our cars to win these vids so we can brag just a little. But there is more to a car than just straight line. The BMW I kinda like in higher end trims with the big massive rims, but would probably never buy one. The GV60 I do like as I am a fan of what Genesis is doing. Having said that - the GTPE that we now own was and still is my favourite EV. I saw it way back when it first launched and when I had the chance to get one we jumped on it - was risky as we never owned an EV. Now that we have had it since April and other than park brake failure it has been flawless and a pure joy to drive. No rattles and no build quality issues, sure the 5 seconds is annoying but it has never really impacted my fun and it has been plenty fast for passing. It is actually stupid fast at times and with magne ride and those wicked Brembos I find is a great daily driver. I actually happen to love its design, especially that king hood and the PE rims are just money for me. I love what Ford has done here and the interior with the simplicity, but still feeling like a car vs a computer just works for me. I am not sure how long we will keep it, but for now it is an awesome machine and I get questions asked about it all the time. Ford has also done a decent job to make the software and PAAK quite reliable. If memory serves me correct - GV60 battery drops quite fast, and the Mach-e seems to have a more solid approach and better range. I do find that is where Ford has struck a good balance and every day use. It’s not perfect, but I love driving it every time I get in. For the weekends I have my 5.0.
