Like the title says there is a large gap between the roof and the trunk spoiler on my 2021 MME Does anyone know how to adjust the trunk to make it flush with the roof?

I had a 21 and had it adjusted twice by the dealer and their body shop. I initially tried adjusting it myself with the bolts at the top but there really wasn't much play and it was never to the level where my 23 is at. https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/trunk-door-allignment-adjustment-how-to-do-it.20157/ Sadly, I don't think you will be able to get it adjusted where it should be and I would consider it a manufacturing issue- but you may be able to improve it a little.

Hi Alex, you can't make it flush with the roof but you can lessen that gap better than what you have now. It is really simple. You just need to loosen the bolts on the mounting bracket, then push up on the back end of the liftgate which forces it to slide back on the mounting bracket which has elongated holes. While pushing back, tighten the bolts. Only do one mounting bracket at a time.

If yours is like mine was and the liftgate is also a little lower than the roofline, I installed one washer between the bracket and liftgate for each bolt. That brought mine up so it is level with the roof and rear quarter panels. If you do need to add washers, removing the bolts on either side is also easy to do and when both bolts are removed, the liftgate will not fall or anything, It stays in place as long as you don't remove the bolts on BOTH mounting brackets at the same time. Replacing the bolts takes a bit of juggling but you will get it. Also do not over tighten these bolts. They only get tightened SUNG to 22 lb ft.

What mine looks like after I added washers to level liftgate with roof and pushed it all the way forward to lessen the gap.

Movie of the adjustment there is in the mounting bracket. Push the liftgate up as high as you can which pushes it forward on the mounting brackets before you tighten the bolts.

As I've seen many time before on this forum, @markboris gets the win. Luckily I didn't have to go to the washer solution on the 23, but they just replaced the entire tailgate and the dealer had to send it back 3 times due to misalignment. It looks pretty good, but the glass reinstall is now not level with the gate frame, the right side is almost against the paint and the left up noticeably.

Okay so it’s not perfect but it’s a hell of a lot better! Still some adjusting to do!

Mine was like this from the start in June 2021.

Not sure if it’s in my mind but I thought it has gotten worse over the nearly 5 years and 125,000 miles.

The tailgate fits perfectly elsewhere so wasn’t interested in trying to make the black part at top align with roof because I thought this is the spoiler and adjustment of tailgate would make it fit less well elsewhere so I just live with it.

Mark, would you have any input on how to fix this? Going to attempt to remove it from the car and see if I can get it back together.

I'm assuming when you say "remove it" you are talking about the front bumper cover?

In this thread, a member replaced the shutter area without removing the bumper cover. For me, taking off the cover is a 20 min job then you have access to everything. Doing it without removing the cover would probably take longer but I wouldn't know since I don't have issues removing the cover.

https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/mach-e-lower-grille-replacement.53502/#post-1078548

Below are instructions on how to remove the front bumper cover if you want to go that route.
