EV6 boxcar energy consumption will be horrid.... due to its aerodynamic drag.

Leaked EV9 specs from Kia survey a few months ago. We'll find out in April if these were true!

ev9 stats.jpg
So the best trim has 240 miles EPA range? No way I will ever buy a BEV that has less range than my GT. I need more range, not less. And I can't imagine the slow 290 mile range version does very well on the highway. Probably that version is worse at 80 mph than my GT.

No thanks.

Kia EV9 is unveiled in all its glory and I think it looks fantastic! Love that they've retained buttons on the dashboard (ahem Ford, BMW, Rivian, Tesla).

No details on official specs until April. Hope Kia bumps up the range and battery pack from the initial leak a couple months ago.

- has a frunk!
- 3 rows (more spacious than a Telluride)
- 2nd row swivel captain's chairs
- rumored to have Highway Drive Pilot (Level 3 autonomous driving)
- on sale late 2023, early 2024

Always start ev models with battery size 99 kwh AWD EPA range 300 miles. So it's a given 300 plus miles in warm weather and 240 miles in colder weather. Ev9 is a bust. 77kwh pulling 5000 lbs AWD 220 miles is warm vs 180 winter.

Especially on a family hauler - I feel a large 3 row SUV is more likely to bring the family on a road trip to the beach or ski resort or something where you need the range.

I'd rather an electrified Kia Carnival, but I'm interested. I test drove an EV6 while waiting on my Mach-E and there's a lot to like. I think Kia might have the best underlying features for EVs. Aside from the faster charging capabilities and vehicle to load ("V2L"), Kia gives you a range of regenerative braking - and you can adjust it easily with paddle shifters. My first EV was a Nissan Leaf and I appreciated the hardware switch for one-pedal driving; being able to change the regenerative braking would be useful. (I drive in Unbridled on my Mach-E all the time for the higher regen, and toggle 1PD on and off depending on traffic... I'd use Engage at times but I hate that it changes the instrument cluster display... Ford's implementation probably isn't the worst, but Kia's is better in this regard. I've started to experiment with Auto Hold and like it quite a bit; my old Leaf didn't have that, as far as I know, and I'm not sure if Kia does either.)

The things I didn't like about the EV6 were lack of wireless CarPlay, and a more standard sunroof, rather than the Mach-E's panoramic sunroof. Not sure if the EV9 will get the wireless CarPlay, but its panoramic sunroof looks like a slightly upgraded version of the Mach-E's, if the promotional images are truly representative of what we'll get.

Trim 3 seems to be the way to go. It doesn't look as nice as the Mach-E, but... we'll see what the color selection is, maybe it'll look better in some alternate colors.

Official EV9 specs coming later today. Kia confirmed it has a 100kW battery (unclear if it's usable). Pricing will come in later months.

Unfortunately it looks like the leaked specs weren't far off. 800V charging, V2L. 197.2 inches length, 77.9 inches width, 69.1 inches height (basically the same as Telluride)

2024 EV9 RWD Standard; (215 hp, 258 lb-ft torque)- 76.1 kwH battery, 0-60 in 8.2 secs, range = ??

2024 EV9 RWD Long Range; (201 hp, ?? lb-ft torque)- 99.8 kwH battery, 0-60 in 9.4 secs, range = 336 miles on WLTP (probably ~ 290 miles on EPA) MUCH SLOWER THAN LEAKED SPECS o_O

2024 EV9 GT-Line; AWD dual motor (380 hp, 442 lb-ft torque)- 99.8kwH battery, 0-60 in 6 secs, range = ??

2024 EV9 GT; AWD dual motor (576 hp, 545 lb-ft torque), early 2025

2024 EV9 GT-Line is the sweet spot. But pricing and range are tbd. Not sure I'd spring for one if range is only 240-250 miles.

I think the base package will be a big hit, since there's not a lot of this class yet. I'm thinking about it!

My next EV will either be another Mustang (as in an addition to our stable) or a tow vehicle with at least 400-500 mile range and a tow capacity of 6500 or so pounds.

I think that it has a chance to be the Telluride of 3 row EV SUVs if the standard EV9 starts somewhere in the low 60s. Once you start getting up into the low/mid 70s you're playing in the Rivian R1S and Mercedes EQE SUV territory, which maybe a little more luxurious than what KIA will do.

Anyone else thinking that winter driving ranges will be abysmal?

I wish they were releasing the EV5 simultaneously. Looks just as good and I'm sure it will have a longer range than the EV9.

I think the thermal management systems in the Kia/Hyundai EVs are much better than our mustang so the reductions shouldn't be as severe

It just feels half-baked. Amazing vehicle design, great interior, disappointing specs.

Yeah the range wouldn't be absolutely awful if I trusted the public charging infrastructure. As it stands though I want more buffer, not less. I am already worried about a trip we have coming up that is only ~290 miles and would only require one EA stop, but there is only one EA or high speed charger at all stop on this route and it's been down a few times the last few months. If I only had 240 miles city range, probably like 190 highway (or less) and that's in the summer, yeesh.

2024 EV9 GT-line video. Shame about the specs because it looks amazing.
