FORD MUSTANG MACH-E WAS BENCHMARKED AGAINST THE PORSCHE MACAN

https://www.musclecarsandtrucks.com/ford-mustang-mach-e-was-benchmarked-against-the-porsche-macan/

The Tesla Model Y Wasn’t Around During The Early Stages Of The Electric Mustang’s Development

The Ford Mustang Mach-E certainly riled up controversy when the iconic nameplate was placed on an electric crossover. Sure, it drives nothing like a Mustang as we know it, but as an electric family crossover, there are few vehicles that can match it. That’s why Ford never benchmarked the Mach-E against a Mustang in testing. But there wasn’t anything on the market that competed in the electric crossover class the Mach-E would go into during its development, so they had to look elsewhere. We asked Mark Kaufman, head of Ford’s EV development squad Team Edison, what vehicle(s) the Mach-E was benchmarked against to find out. It turns out it was the Porsche Macan.

“In the early days of development for Mustang Mach-E, many of the anticipated competitive EVs had not launched yet so we had to be more creative with our benchmarking,” said Kaufman. “Porsche Macan was interesting for us given the similar size, sport heritage and brand premium.“

The Porsche Macan has long been heralded as one of the best driving crossovers on the market, so it makes total sense that Ford used it when developing the Mustang Mach-E. The Tesla Model Y wasn’t available yet, and other EV crossovers were larger, with less of an emphasis on driving enjoyment. The Macan is one of the most desirable and engaging family vehicles available, and Ford wanted its new electric entry to be the same.

And it showed with our time with the Mustang Mach-E. Its driving personality closely reminded us of the Ford Ford Focus RS hot hatch, which in our minds supersedes any performance SUV.

Based on everything we know about the Mach-E and Kaufman’s comments, it’s clear Ford is ok with people saying the Mach-E isn’t like a Mustang. It was never supposed to be. It is a way for Ford to enter a typically boring segment with something interesting. They’ve achieved just that with both the Mustang badge, and the way the EV actually drives.

LOL I own a Macan and I made a table of stats to compare all the cars (electric) to the Macan. There are so many stats that are very close. Thought it was a coincidence.
Could you share that table you made?

Thats good to hear. The Porsche Macan is the best compact SUV on the market by a long shot.

And Porsche is currently working on an EV that is based on the Macan. Learned that while test driving the Taycan 4S.

Nice table but why do the Tesla prices include the ev grant, while all the others are excluding it.
Think the mme didn’t have it on the website at that time and the Tesla includes it.

The Macan might be out early next year. Will be interesting to see the specs and price. Porsche does nickle and dime you for every feature. Leather seats, adjustable seats, upgraded audio system, special sound insulated glass, lane warning departure, adaptive cruise control.
Will probably stick with my GT reservation.
