Mach1E - wow, that looks to be a big improvement. I hope they roll that out to 21 and 22's as part of upcoming OTAs.

To clarify, the setting on my '22 still says Speed Sign Recognition. That's what I turned off.

I think Ford got the message.

It doesn’t look like this is a feature any more for 2023.5 cars. Got a GTPE loaner today while my 2021 is in for the recall. This is what the driver assist menu looks like-

Predictive speed assist is something totally different now too-

Not sure if the “changes in speed limits” will make people go faster again though. But the curves and turns seems new.
I’m thinking, with that speed limit sign in the picture, that it’s still going to read the signs and “adjust your vehicle speed accordingly” as well as adjusting for curves and turns (redundant?). That still may give you the unwanted accelerations when it reads a sign wrong.

Actually where I find it challenging is the unwanted decelerations. For example, driving down a highway where there’s a truck weigh station and the exit road has a speed limit sign posted. I’ve had a few cases where my car read it and tried to decelerate. Definitely a surprise when it happens.

I’d suggest filing an incident report with NHTSA.

Go to https://www.nhtsa.gov/ and click “Report a safety problem.”

I‘m glad no one was seriously injured.
Hello fellow Mach E owners,

I’ve got an interesting (and potentially very concerning) issue here and I feel like I’m banging my head against a wall of indifference dealing with my insurance company.

On Dec 22nd, my wife was driving our ‘22 Premium Mach E. She decided to pick up a snack at our local A&W. When she went to pay, the car suddenly accelerated out of her control. She tried to stop but apparently it wouldn’t respond. She careened around the parking lot until she eventually ended up hitting a Ford Edge. Fortunately no one was seriously injured. (Just bruises from the airbags/seatbelt)

It is my understanding that most modern vehicles (including the Mach E) are equipped with an Event Data Recorder (EDR) that records data about the car and in the event (including which pedals were pressed, speed, etc) of a crash stores that data for a few seconds before/after the event. This data can be pulled by law enforcement/insurance to help in the case of an investigation.

Unfortunately, our insurance company has no interest in investigating and has told us they cannot pull the data. We called our dealership’s collision center and they told us they can’t do it either. I’m wondering where we should go next.

My wife and I have discussed this at length. We both love the Mach E but need to know if the accident was her fault or a software glitch. We got off relatively light, but if this is a more widespread issue, it could cause fatalities and we would like some peace of mind before we look into a replacement.
Hi,

I had a similar issue with my GT inthe UK, but managed to stop the thing. Was yours set to 1 pedal? Ford denied there was an issue, and refused to "swap" the car out. I have disabled 1-pedal, and never experienced problem again. Let me know if you need any further information to fight your case.

Regards

No, neither my wife or I use 1-pedal. Which model year is your GT? I know there was a recall for a limited number of ‘21s, but mine was a ‘22 Premium.

I asked my insurance company to access the EDR data as my dealer was claiming I hit a curb at "high speed" which they "discovered" while replacing my HVBJB which failed the same day I got the recall notice. I think the dealer had an accident in lifting my car. I finally gave up. I did find more information:

How do I access my car EDR data?
Depending on the EDR type, you may need to use a dedicated EDR tool, such as the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) tool, or a generic scan tool, such as the Snap-on MODIS. You may also need to use a battery maintainer or a power supply to keep the vehicle's electrical system stable during the data extraction process.

Why they don't want to access the EDR, it's a lot of work:

Does she drive with 1 foot or 2? I head some people drive with both feet on cars without a clutch which is just weird to me.

I have similar story with my Ford Lightning, except my truck had minor damage since it hit garage door, unexpectedly ford decided to total my car. What’s the ending of your story?

You’ll have to hire a forensic service company to download the data for a fee. You’ll need the airbag module out of the car.

Personally I think it’s extremely unlikely there was an uncommanded acceleration. Brake pedal always overrides acceleration.
Here in Canada, my insurance told me only option to send it Ford dealership, they answer was same as original post.
I don’t understand isn’t the insurance one most interest to find out what actually happened? And who at fault?
