I live in tropical hell this time of year. If I walk out to the car and spot rusty rotors, I grin.

I know exactly how to shine those big gorgeous rotors with those big gorgeous Brembo buffers. ?

Admittedly, the Mach-E has dropped my score in the smartphone insurance nanny-app. I was sporting a nice A- 93 (out of 100) until I got the GTPE. Now I'm a B+. But if that's all them Brembos and Continentals and 1000+AMPs are going to cost me?

By doing a hard brake that exceeds the max slowing capability of regen and forces the friction brakes to kick it for additional slowing.
I always brake very slowly when driving in two pedal and the rust is still removed from the rotors. Is there a setting that I need to enable to use regen when in two pedal?

I thought I read on here somewhere you do get regen from two pedal, but I guess if you’re driving in unbridled, you don’t I don’t know for sure?

You probably aren't getting much rust them. Friction brakes are always used for the last 3MPH or so, thus you are getting a little friction use regularly. It's just if you want more friction than that. Then you would want to do a few hard brakes that exceed the max rate of regen slowing.

No, you get regen braking regardless no matter what drive mode or 1PD/2PD you're in. The car knows to use regen first, and only add on friction if needed to slow down faster than regen's max, and for the last 3 MPH.

All the drive modes do is affect how much slowing naturally occurs when lifting up on the accelerator pedal. It doesn't change how slowing occurs. That's the same either way (regen first, with friction only added when regen is maxed out).

OK, I just assumed in unbridled there wasn’t much regen because when I let off the pedal for the first time on unbridled it’s like whoa this thing ain’t stopping lol and I had to hit the brakes cause I was so used to whisper mode

Is there better miles per kwh with either option?
No. The car still uses regen first no matter what mode or pedal you use to slow down. The regen energy recovered should be exactly the same no matter the mode.

Of course, hard braking will require friction brakes too since that exceeds the max slowing of regen (that's what brake coach shows). But as long as you don't do hard stops/slows, you're getting 100% regen (until the final 3 MPH where friction takes over regardless).

Acceleration is little different matter. While the exact same acceleration will use the same kW in any mode, changing modes can cause the driver to drive more "sporty", accelerating faster, using more energy, and lowering your MPK (mi/kWh) some. But that's really on the driver, not the car. When you're in a sportier mode where the pedal has a shorter range where a smaller press gives you more power, it naturally makes people accelerate faster.

I have to disagree with that because when I put it in engage, I’m always in one pedal in the brake coach pops up and says how much you’ve regenerated now if you’re not seeing that maybe that is a result of one of the updates because I have had no updates, but I’m pretty sure I’m correct here. Somebody help me out, lol back me up
Yup

I think it's the other way around... Whisper should give you very little slowing when lifting off the accelerator pedal, while Unbridled should give you more. Although I never drive in Unbridled so I can't say first hand. That was always my understanding though.

But more to your point, what you've leaving of the the equation is that the brake pedal uses regen too (until max'd out). Simply lifting up on the acc pedal only determines how much slowing you get from that action alone. It doesn't mean it's maxing out regen. There's usually more still available on the brake pedal. For instance (and these are numbers I'm just making up)... When in W mode, you may be getting 20% of regen capability by lifting off the acc pedal, and the remaining 80% will need the brake pedal. While U mode may be 50% regen lifting off the acc pedal, and the remaining 50% will need the brake pedal.

I know that's kinda confusing.

Well, it’s pouring here in South Mississippi, and I’m getting ready to test those new Michelin out in this weather haven’t driven them in the rain. I don’t think yet and I’ll test out the different modes and let you know I just know and whisper when I let off the pedal 65 it is like almost stopping on a dime within 100 yards.

OK, so it does look like an unbridled. It does slow down a little quicker than the other two modes but I can tell you right now when you switch it to two pedal, it will not stop. I almost ran into the back of a car lol I’m not testing no more.

1PD would do that (slow down quickly when lifting off the acc pedal), of course, but 2PD shouldn't. Maybe I misunderstood and you're in 1PD?

L gear would also do that. That's what I always use. I don't like 1PD (particularly for precise movement in my garage and parking spots). I just like traditional creep + brake pedal better for fine movements. But I like a lot of regen slowing when lifting up on the acc pedal, and I like the longer acc pedal play and softer steering that W has. So I drive in 2PD W+L full time.

Besides the regeneration you get with one pedal, and less wear and tear on brake pads, the other benefit is through insurance. My company has the safe pilot program and if you don’t use the phone, hands-free or not while you’re driving or hard brake the discount is pretty good. I got the car in the middle of the Insurance period so I don’t receive the discount till November but it’s going to be about $185 off my six month policy which is pretty darn good. Hands-free texting where you use the voice in the car, that doesn’t count against you, which is OK. It’s definitely not a program You want to sign up for if you’re totally addicted to your telephone, like my daughter.

thanks for moving to a new category. I wasn’t sure where to put it.
I only use 2 pedal and brake coach in engage mode says I get 100% energy returned almost every time I stop. I hate the feeling of one pedal on a $70k GTpe, but its great on my John Deere and Kubota hydrostat tractors.

Next time I call a USAA agent I am going to mention that calling someone with a short advisory can be less distracting than sending a message.
